Got some old red box acoustic research speakers and they are knackered. I am running a SUVX600 Technics amp.

How do I go about matching speakers to it?

On the back of the amp there are 4 sets of speaker connectors. A left and right
B left and right.

A or B 4-16 ohms each speaker.
A and B 8-16ohms each speaker
biwiring 4-16 ohms/speaker

Does that mean I can wire up two speakers 4-16 to either A or B.
OR
Wire up 4 speakers with ratings of 8-16 ohms to both A and B
OR
wire up two biwire speakers at 4-16 ohms.

Anyone recommend a set up on a budget for a small to medium size room with space only for bookcase speakers. Or i suppose I could squeeze in some floor speakers if I only have two speakers.

Thought I might buy from richer sounds? Any advice would be gladly recieved.

Basically low impedance = harder to drive. So if you wanted to use 4 speakers they'd have to be 8-16 Ohms. If you wanted to just use 2 they could be 4-16 Ohms.

I haven't really kept up with whats good at the moment. Mission, Tannoy, Mordaunt Short, B&W and others all have made some decent bookshelf speakers. Depends on what sort of sound your after, e.g do you like lots of detail or prefer a fuller "warmer" sound. Or are you just after the biggest bassiest speakers you can afford?

You could look at something along the lines of this one http://www.richersounds.com/index.php?f=itemdetl.php&p=201402 but thats probably not the best choice if your mainly into dance music where more bass would probably work better.

Richer Sounds has some good deals especially if you get recently replaced models.

I can THOROUGHLY recommend the Kef Q1 book shelves on Atacama Nexus stands :) I've had mine for a few months now and they sound lovely. VERY detailed (for the price) and a nice bass response.

You won't get them at RicherSounds but you can pick them up anywhere for abour £250 pair :)
