View Full Version : Why the hell
aint we got our own chat room ?
Yeh, I think thats a good idea. :)
Right,
1st chat room was pants so ive opened up a IRC room. 1st you need to goto www.mirc.com and download the program, download directly from Here (http://www.mirc.com/get.html)
When that is all installed and you have made an account, point your browser Here (http://www.ircbear.com/channelinfo.plm?channel=sxoc)
Then click on join this channel. Marvin is a computer robot, who keeps the room open when nobody is in there, so no trying to have a convo with him, as he aint very chatty :D
MODS please make this sticky, as all the people who came into the last room thought a chat room was an excellent idea.
If you need any help then post here and i'll try and help you out.

Mods we gonna keep this sticky so everyone can chat away in our own chat room ?
Nice IRC room it would be cool if you could get a room linked into quakenet tho so I can idle in all the more normal places.
#airattack
#wireplay
#linux
#gah
etc !
waking up an old thread :D
*boink*
#sxoc, irc.quakenet.org
I've spent the last five minutes waking the dead.

who runs this site again? it wouldnt be too difficult to add a chat room to this site im sure, be a lot better than having to download irc.
i might have a butchers through some old mags, sure i got an idiots guide on how to make up a chat room somewhere.
why irc ? well, a) it's very very good at what it does: i.e. text-based 'cb radio' for the internet - and you can use it to do more than just talk about cars.
I heartily recommend it for random chatting.
sadly, all the other solutions to the 'instant group realtime chat' are inflexible, clunky and shite by comparison.
so, download mirc for your computer (or any other irc client - flexible see ?)
http://www.mirc.co.uk
input a nickname
select either the quakenet 'network' or choose the server irc.quakenet.org
and join #sxoc
if your client prompts you with a terminal, type /join #sxoc
tada.
now just leave it running forever and ever. people will come and go, some will be online always. it's good for satisfying that random banter itch some of us have, or asking the more embarassing techy questions.
there are hundreds of other channels to look into, too.
