Without me asking the garage direct, anyone on the board know the standard checks, etc, for an 8,000 mile service on a Yamaha R6 ?

I've been quoted £180/£190 ! I'm, therefore, thinking of doing it myself. But then bang goes the FSH

Many thanks,

Mike.

If you`re pretty friendly with your local Yamaha dealer, find out what is required for the service, buy the bits from them. If you ask them nicely, they should stamp the book for you.

I've got a '99 R6 and a peek in the handbook says the 8000 service is a major one (although 16,000 is the real biggie). Basically:

1. Fuel lines check for cracks
2. Fuel filter check and replace if necessary
3. Spark plugs check and replace if necessary
4. Air filter and replace if necessary
5. Check cluthch operation
6. Check front brake pads, discs and fluid
7. Check rear brake pads, disc and fluid
8. Check wheels for balance run out and damage
9. Check tires (sic!) tread, pressure and damage
10. Check wheel bearings
11. Check swingarm bearings
12. Check and adjust drive chain
13. Check and adhjust if necessary steering head bearings
14. Check chassis fastenings
15. Check sidestand (and switch) operation
16. Check front forks for leaks, damage etc
17. Check rear shock
18. Check rear suspension linkage bearings
19.Check and adjust (if necessary) carburettor settings
20. Replace engine oil and filter
21. Check coolant level and strength and check for leaks.

Hmm. Now I've typed all that, there are a lot of checks and not that much to replace. The service should be mainly labour with not that much for bits. To do it properly I'd guess at least a couple of hours. Why not try ringing a few other dealers for comparisons to make sure you're not getting ripped off. If they're charging the same at least you know its the going rate. Hope that helps. :)

A great many thanks for the posts guys !

I shall compare prices across a number of garages as suggested. And then contemplate the best way forward :)

It would have helped if my handbook was in English ! As it was bought from D&K, it's in friggin' German

At least they said they'd change it at my next visit. I just haven't got round to it yet.

Once again, thanks for the help :)

Regards...Mike.
