I've found the 200SX a very steep learning curve, being my first ever powerful car and also rear wheel drive car. I do think it's a fantastic car, but a few things occur to me. Firstly, this year I intend to take it to very near the 300bhp mark, and that should not cost too much, but then the real dilema; to go beyond ... would be very nice to get those Volk or Blitz wheels I fancy and and bigger turbo, injectors, ecu etc, but then again wouldn't it be nice to have a skyline if I'm going to put that sort of cash down. Then again what about an RX-7, weighs about the same as an SX, and with an induction kit, de-cats and exhaust easily puts out 280bhp even if it's a uk spec one, and even without that extra power, as standard it's still a 0-60sec 5.4 car. Would be nice to re-enact that scence from Fast and Furious "nice car, what's the retail on one of those?" but somehow, in my SX, don't think it will ever happen ... oh but then again, I did see an SX with 800bhp by Top Secret, anyone selling a truck turbo?
200sx are easy to get to 270 bhp, ask your self what you want from a car, a skyline GTR is a better car, and RX7 is quicker and handles better. both the GTR and the RX7 cost lots more to run, insure etc. I wouldn't of got ride of my 200sx because it was my project (be quicker than a GTR or a RX7) if you don't enjoy modding (wasting money) then save and get another car.
i don't really know what your question/post was about but this is how i took it :D

My post wasn't really a question, just a general rant and wondered if anyone had travelled down the same path. I don't see modifying cars as wasting money by any means, just am considering drawing the line (somewhere!) with my 200sx as I saw a Skyline that could do 0-60mph (as measure by a GPS device) in 2.96sec and that really is my idea of a modified car!
I just don't want to pile (on top of what I've already spent) 10K into my SX and then get beaten by every other sports car out there.

heh, from what I've heard RX-7's are a little more specialist to tune, you can't just bung on exhaust and filter (etc), you've gotta match the fuelling with everything you do or it'll just run like a dog
so think expensive
So you want a car that's as fast as a Skyline but as cheap as a 2*****..........?
Best of luck! ;)

get a 2***** and buy some posh bits to put on it. :)
Surely 300BHP from a 200 is plenty. You should be faster than >99% of cars on the road.

If you were to put 10k into your 200, then NOT alot of cars would beat you anywhere? you would easily beat a RX7 and a GTR with that amount of money.
But you cant really compare 200's to skylines and RX7's, they will obviously push out more power because of their engines.
If you want a car that can do fast 0-60 times, then the 200 aint it.
But if you want a car that is not well known and if you were to spend 10k on it. you will easily have one of the fasest 200's in the county. In my opinion??
