I love low miles, simple ! :)
Its a shame Parkers used prices list these cars way under there asking prices, but still, i got some pocket money to spend, what u reckon ?
:)
Stuie
Low miles = ****ed town car... :)
I'd always go for something with about 8-10k miles pa
Out of those three... it has to be the Blue one :)
Hi Stu! They are all mighty fine cars
Mostly depends on colour really! I'll give you my precise opinion after food as i have a macy 'd waiting!
Are you going to the rolling road day tomorrow?
aND FINALLY i take it the Liner has been sold

low miles = an owner like Paul, someone who dont use there car, which is perfect !!! :)
Rolling road, yeah, i'll be there, on my BMX !!!!! Skyline sold today :(
Only downside to the black one, theres no boot ?????? am Liking the Stage 3 blue one from up north, but as much as its looked after, i'm guessing in my hands, it could cost me a lot more to keep than my old R34 ! ? found an X plate standard 48k mile on autotrader, £5k , hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Your dreaming mate... - every low miler I looked at when I was looking a couple of years ago was a wreck... if you can find something like Pauls then you'll be a jammy git :D
These cars dont like be stood up / un-used ...
Good luck
Stu, I know your not going to listen mate, but the best buy on the forum with a 5k budget is this (http://www.sxoc.co.uk/vbb/showthread.php?t=319824).....by miles!!
Chems is a nice spec tho. My only advice is, dont rush and spend as much time as you want (i mean hours) checking it over before you hand over your cash

Nice one Joe !!! hehe !!!!!!
I got 6k max, wanted to keep it too 5.5k though
Right,
Down to 2 cars, the Damson one at 50k mile (as paul pointed out to me, why need a new clutch at 45k mile ?)
and the blue one (well it looks blue to me...), with stage 3 mods, from up Cumbria...... I dont like that its got 83k mile, cos if i try and sell it, i know it wont sell, despite all the toys on it...

Thanks Scott! Mines not that good close up
I reckon the blue ones the one to have! And if Stu's worried about mpg then i have offered my stage 1 stuff for the stage 3 stuff on that and £1k in his pocket  (may have to include the cooling panel though ;) )
Def the blue one, its the best car i've ever seen :wack:
Def the blue one, its the best car i've ever seen :wack:
Lol,spray it Black,i wanted the only modded blue one in the village :ghey: :wack:
At first glance I like the black one, I'll have a better look at them later mate :)
Damson is probably the worst colour on the 14a
The suspension on the blue one will be very hard so you'd probably want to change that soon as you like your comfy suspension
That black one dude is sswwwwweeeeeetttttttttt! Stunning.
sunnybono
11-11-2007, 11:13
2, 1, 3.
2 is the best value by far!!
You will end up modding the black one which means more money spent. The suspension on the blue one could be swapped for some kyb which might even earn you a bit.

Few cars out there that catch my eye, theres a garage up north, who got a 'Y' plate in black, 3 owners, standard, 55k miles........ could give him £5k for it......... but he's in Chorley, Lancs, which is 200 miles from here!

I just made an offer to the chap with the Damson coloured one (how much for a respray anyone ?, oh and some BK 299 17" alloys to go on it...)
The Stage 3 modded blue one is out, not interested in that........
and only other one i like, although standard, is a black Y plate 55k mile one, for £5k through a trader....... but he's like 200 miles away !!!!

I just bought the X reg standard one for £4,400 !!!! :) (63k mile, will need a service mind... as last full service was at 48k)
Next mission, get some BK 299 17" rims for it, straight through exhaust, FMIC (2nd hand on the zorst and fmic mind), and a boost controller ? basically, i got £1k to spend on toys :)

You do know that were not built up to 2000/2001, someone will be able to clarify me on this but they stopped making them around 98, so any registered 2001 will have just been sat around for three years - maybe in a field, who knows! Also not serviced for 15K  makes me think what else has been scrimped on. That alone would have me walking out of the door. Esp when you consider its got a boost guage in there, so no doubt its had the boost upp'd at some point and probably ragged about on normal unleaded while not being served for 15K! You should have just done it right and bought my old one. Oh and BK wheels are shite :whip:
Oh and its green... :hurl:

paid £200 deposit......
pay the rest on the day IF the car is worthy......
yup, colour sucks, and yup, as far as i know, they stopped making them in 1999 i think, and the others just sat around until sold......
End of the day, if i get there and its nailed, i just had an expensive day out, i get my money back, as i said the trader already, i'll be miffed to get there and find out its got issues.
Its a shame i cant find out via the reg if the prev owner of 3 years is a member on here.........
Just for the record, i bought my S14 with 73k on the clock years ago, not fully serviced for 15k mile, oil for 6k mile, i got it, serviced it, and she ran sweet :)
Despite when the car is made, the value it goes on, is what i went for and miles, plus only had £6k max to spend, so counted Si's out straight away......
Oh, and BK's are in my price range, Rota's arnt :( :(

and i didnt just pick this willy nilly, i spent all day yesterday going through ad's on here back to September for cars for sale, including pistonheads ! :)
Get it HPI'd dude...
I know your in a rush but try and slow it down a bit and take the time to find an example you really want and even a better colour ;)
Buy a cheap runaround if necessary short term... lots of 200sx for sale at the moment so should be no reason to buy a rough one... buy on condition not mileage!!
It took me three months to find mine and I was looking UK wide!! ... ironic that I found it practically on my door step!!
An example of a low mileage one (http://sxoc.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=321168&highlight=47k)with a few more issues than most.
What about this one (http://sxoc.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=319632)? :) Under £5k with a super history in the board...and very pretty :)

Being on the phone is one thing... taking the time to inspect them is another... I saw no less than over a dozen sheddy 200sx's before I bought mine - most have seen accident damage at some time and very few have original paintwork on them...
Its obvious your not going to listen to what people have to say so I will just say good luck  :)

:) Mileage means nothing if its been looked after, and a buffy rebuild (not that it will need it) is FAR cheaper than a full colour change, let me tell you ;)
EDIT: Stu,
Between me, Chris and Buffy, how many 200's have we seen/owned of varying conditions?! Take some advice man, we dont want to see you make the wrong choice. :smash:
OCD's comment about the boost gauge on the one you are going for is very prudent.
Also, people on here are all selling there cars at huge losses, that trader is making money, just a matter of how much!!
Yep c'mon Stu,we are all trying to help you here mate! Buying a colour you don't really want, you will always regret! Hire a car for a month and get one that you are looking for!
I used to be mr low mileage!but it really means feck all if the owner has looked after it,which all the initial ad's they obviously had!

THE BLACK ONE !!!!!!!!!!!!
how can you think otherwise!
Look at this one thats come up! Perfect (although i haven't fully read the add:wack: )
http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=321784
Right fully read above now! Needs a slight price adjustment for the warped disks and the slight interior faults!
But the rest of the probs even mine has at 38k miles (so that throws out your low milage argument Stu :p )
So i would pm this guy,put £4700 in his pocket, spend a grand getting it where you want and enjoy

i remember being overtaken on the M4 by that black one, and i was doing 95mph in an astra !! :) he had nicer alloys on it back then though (2 years ago) :)
as to the one i put a deposit on, Prev owner had it from the SXOC :)
Although i do like the black one, will offer him some cash :) see what he says..
as the one i put a deposit on, i dont have to buy it, and can get my money back (and as the book price goes, i am getting it under the book price...)......
oh, and the green one looks alright, i got lots more pic's of the engine, interior, etc etc that aint on there website, and agreed with the bloke if i think its nailed, i walk, simple ! :) (it is FNSH all the way...) (and theres no bren device for altering the boost..)
And dudes, i appreciate what u all saying, but i aint thinking just about the car now, i am thinking ahead 1 or 2 years, how many miles will be on it, and yes, i look after my cars, but when i had an S14, it was kept in top nick, serviced, shiney, just over 100k miles, and i could'nt even sell it for £1500 on here last year....... I do over 13k miles a year, so if i change motors, i dont wanna shoot myself in the foot ! and make Another loss
The car i wanted sold today (it was a black Y plate 55k standard one, up north, and it sold!!!! grrrr)
I saw the green one too, and believe it or not, i like the green, was the damson one i aint too keen on (hence not buying skinks car!)
But seriously though dudes, i appreciate what u all saying, and before doing a deposit, i was seriously umming and arrning over CHems car, which to this moment right now, i still am ! as said, i aint bought nothing yet !!, just secured somthing i can walk away from ! :)
Clean freak!

I havent bought a car yet anyway !!!
and at the start of my thread, it states what i want to spend my money on, a car with low miles, thats my only request !!! :)
and dont forget, i aint after high spec ! :) just peoples advice ! (which i've got, cheers dudes  )
Hope you find what your looking for Stu, but I have to agree that low mileage doesn't mean much. I was a low mileage whore:nod: but you can get a car that's had a hard life and poorly looked after with under 50k on it:nod: Mine's on 102,000 miles and it's still as sweet as a nut as it's looked after (to much probably:o)
Good luck fella:thumbs:

Am only going to look mind, the garage knows i will only buy if it meets the requirments......... 1 thing out, and i carry on my shopping in london..........
I only want small mods peeps ! :)
Not on there now, no mate...when you going down?Could still be washers behind the actuator bracket or the brass restrictor maybe fallen out ;)
The only way to tell is to drive it and note max boost
same as there could have been one on there, and its just been taken out...!

test drive, if i here a whistle, any noise that should'nt be there, smoke, etc etc etc........ then i'm off, as u all said, dont rush into anything, and thats what i aint gonna do ! :) sales of goods act enables me to get my deposit back on a product should it not meet the requirements :)
And you know what VVT rattle sounds like don't you? nearly all will have that

I spoke to the bloke who was selling it on the phone, he was like, yeah, it works a treat, all is good etc etc.....
So i did some detective work in the space of 30 mins, i found a tele number for a bloke who owned it 6 years ago !, spoke to him, etc etc, turned out it was written off 3 times, engine has always been busted up ! felt quite good i did !!!!
If tomorrow morning i dont hear of the HPi results, i wont be going to london  to look at this car.....

Listed as a standard car, I spy a DV, coupled with the boost gauge and apexi filter would indicate something that probably isnt there now. Add into the mix the long interval between services and what look like rough stage one mods would have me worried.
Also I know this is an advice thread so here is my bit. Your looking for a relatively cheap car now with a view to do small mods to. But at the same time thinking what it will be worth in the future, especially considering you do over 13k a year in the car. Taking this on board cost is an issue to you so my advice would be this - Take your 6 grand, spend 500-750 on a cheap diesel, while you look for a 200. Then spend 5500 (plus whatever you have saved while looking) and buy the right 200. Then keep the diesel to use daily, keeping the miles of the 200 and lowering your outgoings, while also making the 200 more enjoyable because you drive it less - meaning that when you do, you love it!
I bet the if you do the math, running the two cars is actually cheaper. The savings on fuel alone will be massive even on 2 years daily driving of 26K. I know this worked for. Plus insuring both cars cost me only £100 a year more because the 200 was on limited millage etc.
Si :)

I have my fingers crossed that whatever the issue, Buffy can sort out for me, i got a warranty for it anyway for 3 months :) :)
It feels sooo different driving this compared to the Skyline, soooo different !!, my ass dont fit in the seats in the 200, best i stop eating pizza's :(
But most of all, am glad to be back in a 200 ! :D :D :D , going shopping now for alloys, FMIC, zorst, and somthing else :)

Well done mate looking forward to some pic's:thumbs:
I saw the green one too, and believe it or not, i like the green, was the damson one i aint too keen on (hence not buying skinks car!)
Erm, not that's not quite right is it?
The reason you didn't buy my car is because of your highly comical attempt at beating me down on price and the fact it was practically sold already :)
Should be in the buying used tips in autotrader this for bartering dealers down:
Excuse my ignornance for your ad....
But, i'll offer u £4.2 , and i'll send the wheels/tyres back to u if u want them..
I got my eye on 3 cars, yours, although i'd have to spend a few bob changing a few things, Chem's car, which is modded beyond crazy (i just prefer stage 1), and a black Y plate 50k mile standard £5k through a trader.........
So, i gotta buy this week, so have a think about it....... just to note, i had an S14 for 3 years, and an R34 for 1 year, so i know the values of cars, book prices make the resale costs suck !
Stuie!)
Just to let you know, the South Wales section hasn't got some magical protection that prevents other members selling their cars from looking at your posts :D
Also Mr OCD, a low miler doesn't always mean a sh*tter (see my recent old one and car before that which is now Rich D's, both lovely examples)
Good luck with the one you bought anyway Stu

From how cold the roads were last night, drifting was somthing I could'nt avoid !
And yeah skink, i'm a big time tight arse bargain hunter, hence me offer ! :D :D :D
Couple of things Buffy found:
Gearbox has been rebuilt....... dunno why, but i guess saves me doing it....
back bumper does need swapping out (woman driver i guess, doesnt know how to reverse without hitting things..)
Front bumper slight scrape, alloys got the usual kerbing scrape, but am getting new alloys anyway :)
Remote central locking doesnt work, so off to Nissan to get that fixed........
There is 1 thing thats puzzling me, when driving, if i put the window down, i can smell petrol, hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm :(
other than that, X reg, 2 prev owners, 65k mile, fnsh, i paid £4300 for it ! :) (was £5k)
I just need to buy used bits for it now to get her upto 250bhp :)
Am happy with the car, was a sad day to see my R34 go, and lose the comfyness of the R34, but needs must ! :)
Photos coming soon, or can someone host them for me, i cant access my photobucket site from work now :(

Tey're not a bad wheel but getting a bit dated now! If you are buying new, there are much wider lighter jap rims which will only cost a few quid more!

Is the 225/45/r17 tyre low profile ? (thats what i want, low profile!) dont understand the sizes like....
17" refers to the face of the wheel, the pritty bit.
you want 8" depth which is the measurment between the 2 rims, ie "out edge to inner edge" where the tread is. the more depth, the better " therefore being able to fit wider tyres = more grip.
1st number 225 is the depth of the tyre
2nd number 45 refers to the profile
3rd number 17 refers to the diameter of the wheel.
sorry if my explaination is a bit cr@p
BK299's are a nice looking rim but really :ghey: width and the tyres that come with the ones in your link are probably worse than Nankangs :(
IMHO your better off looking for a set of second hand 17's with a good offset and width. Like these: http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=307869&highlight=modena a bit old school but decent rims and good widths although they could do with a bit of spacing. I think the white would look good against an emerald green car:nod:

and this width on the rears: http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m4b0s18p0
Stuart those wheels are gonna look :ghey: - theyre 2 inches narrower than you need, and theyre garunteed to be a bad offset to (so they'll sit in the arches way too much).

what if i got spacers ?! :)
I only got so much i can spend on alloys, and as said, the ones i like, are £300 over my budget ! (£510 tops for alloys/tyres)........ i really like those rota torque ones, but they aint cheap !
good spacers are gonna cost you £130+ for all 4 mate! ;)
Django67
20-11-2007, 15:02
You'll need 25mm spacers all round to fit those wheels, which will blow your budget anyway. As everyone else has said, get some second hand decent width ones.
If you really must, then I would go for 215 width tyres (or even 205) on a 7" rim, 225's a bit too wide and would look balloony, IMO.
Seriously though Stu, cheap narrow alloys are a false economy:nod: your much better off going for something like these, and they are within your budget: http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=322595
Cheapish intercooler here! http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=322761

Very good wheels with (depending on wear) very good tyres on. You'd be mad not to. Even if the BKs were a decent width, the R33GTRs would still look better.

I bought one of those about 2 weeks ago:nod:. I've only had it running in the house for a few hours and I've had no problems with it.
If your using a SD card in it make sure you have a disc in the player or you woun't be able to select the SD card function for some stupid reason.

As above mine was pants and I think the reset button was there cos they new it was pants so they put a button to re-set it every time its crappyness reared its head:D
eg : pressing skip then play then skip with in 30seconds of each other. would cause every function to freeze Radio, screen operation , every thing:wack:
Then mannual told you to press the reset:eek: if this happened which was a butten on the bottem left, which then reset everything, including all presets and you regained control.....................but not for long:wack:

As for the TV part, i bought the TV tuner 22db booster antenna, so that should help there....... end of the day, if i have problems with it, says its covered for 1 year warranty, so i could always moan ?!! :)
I wont be using and SD or USB things on it, just MP3 on DVD discs, movies in DivX format, and the TV bit so whichever chick is in my car, can watch Corrie !!! :D hehe :D

Done some searching, increased my budget a bit, i think i can collect from a local franchise for these,

Or a replica nearly of the r33 gtr alloy: http://www.topgear.co.uk/acatalog/4x_BK121_Silver_Alloy_Wheels_with_205_40_17_tyres. php (for about £380)
or last choice, http://www.topgear.co.uk/acatalog/BK399_Hi_power_black_with_205_40_17_tyres.php (but in silver, for around £515)

u punks are confusing me now !! i thought Rota Torque's were the way to go ?!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D
too late on the hong kong special, already ordered !! :)
Ideally you want at least a 8" wide rim on the front and 9" wide rim on the back:nod: 9/9.5" wide all round will look
As Bulk said save your pennys and get a decent set of rims first as last. Are you that desperate to have alloys?
If you want to bring something in from the states that are pretty cheap with decent widths have a look at these: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/18-ADR-BATTLE-EXE-STAGGERED-WHEELS-5x114-3-SILVER-RIMS_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ43958QQihZ001QQite mZ110194581296QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD2V
Anything will still look tiny until the car is lowered anyway!
And as stated many times 8" front and 9" rear is the way to go
Anything less than 8"s and you'll be looking for £150 worth of spacers!
You buy a green car... and now you want to buy narrow wheels?
:D ;)
As mentioned at LEAST 8 inch wide all round... not worth bothering else imho.

So far, have paid £235 for Hong kong Fooey special pop out 7" touchscreen divx TV dvd player...
£187.50 for FMIC from DB Power
Done the full service on the car....
Have put money aside to get the car lowered a little bit....
given myself £590 for alloys...
given myself max £325 to spend on an exhaust
Gonna spend £40 ish on the boost valve...
:)
ok, as to wheels, i got standards on at the mo, what size are those ? i know the tyre is like 205/55/r16 , are the alloys like 16x6 ? or 16x7 ? , all identical size ? (really do like those torques u know !!)
