Condensed story (not interesting enough to warrant a post on the Roadkills section, I'm afraid:( ) :-

I was making my way (very leisurely) out of a major City in the South West at about 8pm on Sat.

After passing over about 3 roundabouts and umpteen sets of
traffic lights (listening to the radio, minding my own business) I noticed a 944 glued to my tail. He was making himself known.........

Anyway, just before we left the City limits he went one way and I went another - but ended up on the same stretch of DC, me in front.

944 man appears behind then (dramatically) pulls out and zips past.

I sling-shot round behind him and we have a straight blast (no-one about and no side turnings for 2 miles, may I add).

I pulled past him and, after a bit of effort, was gone!

Er, should my circa-220 horses have been enough for this result?

Was he not trying?

Is there a 'slow' 944?

Basically, "?"

A Roadkill's not claimable if the other guy's not trying:(

I think there's a turbo and non-turbo. The non-turbo's beatable, its got a healthy sub 7 second 0-60 standard though (I think).

Would he have been giving you greif if he didn't want a proper race

That's what I thought.

Unless he bottled it (?).

Some of the early 944's are only a four pot 2.5 producing about 170 bhp.

The S had a 2.7 and this became standard from about 87 onwards.

The S2 has a four pot 3.0 16v and is quick, only about 6 to 6.5 secs to 60, but good for at least 165.

THe turbo's are fast though, I think the later one is a 2.7 single turbo and produces 250bhp with a load of torque.

I think the later ones are really nice looking motors, and the most common owners are people who have moved on from jap coupes  believe it or not.

They are also really heavy!

I used to own a 924 which is the same without the bodykit and with a smaller engine.

My next car might be a 944s2 turbo, if I don't end up keeping the s13 or getting an s14 (I'm getting on a bit ;) )

i've driven a 944 non turbo (2.7) and they are nowhere near as quick as claimed IMO - this one was immaculate and not a sh!tter.....

they do handle well tho - no power steering! but they stick to the floor well :)

944 turbo's came in 2 variants , an early 220bhp model and a later 250 bhp version. 0-60 times were allegedly low 5's.

The standard (later lux)model came with a 2.5 160bhp engine good for 60 in a little under 8 seconds (the later lux was 2.7 &170 bhp but similar 0-60)

The S was a 2.5 16v with sub 7 second 0-60 , and the s2 was around 230bhp I think. IIRC its 0-60 time was about 5.8ish.

hope this helps:)

They certainly do:D

And the steering - parking the thing was a good workout, didn't need to visit the gym, just the car park:)

Input appreciated, people.;)

So, sounds like a genuine victory but I must be on my guard in future (golden rule of the Roadkill: Know what you're up against so you don't make yourself look stupid:) ).
