Hi Guys

In case you haven't seen the info on the new website, I am now undertaking engine rebuilds.

These engine rebuilds can be anything from standard spec to forged pistons/conrods, uprated cams etc.

I will be rebuilding a few over winter so keep your eyes out in the spring for some rebuilt engines.

I'm not going to be rebuilding peoples engines while they wait though, as I prefer to work to my own pace

Here are some pics on what I have so far:-

To give you an idea on specs, the one I am currently rebuilding will have the following:-

Forged Pistons
Steel Conrods
Metal Headgasket
All valves lapped
Engine and Head Acid Dipped
Fully balanced bottom end
256 Tomei Cams
Larger Sump
+ the usuals i.e. big ends and mains.

Can you advise on a cost for a standard rebuilt bottom end?

Can you advise on a cost for a standard rebuilt bottom end?

Depends on what has gone wrong with it :(

Have the big ends gone? if so as long as the crank and conrods are in a serviceable state and I'm given just a block then about £500 that includes new rod shells, new mains, new oil pump and machining to the crank :)

I believe its going to need crank and con rods too? I dont know much about these things, but I was shown the bottom end of the engine with the sump partially removed - the bearings on the bottom of the con rods were rotating freely (i was informed by the mechanic that they should be fixed in place?) He believed that the car would require new bearings, conrods and crank as far as I am aware.

The engine is a 53,000 miler. The damage was due to a spray bar being blocked in the head. I have already had the head rebuilt, now am advised the bottom end needs a rebuild.

So....what kind of price can you do the bottom end with the possibility of replacing crank and con rods?

The car has been stuck in the garage since August and I am at my wits end, so Im keen to push on with this!

Hi Ed

A crank would set you back about £700 alone, I believe that's what Nissan charge for them :(

If your not far away you could always drop it around so I can have a look at it :)

Where abouts are you? I will have to get the garage to pull the engine out and get it to you somehow. If you deem the crank/conrods unserviceable, perhaps I could source a serviceable crank from David Reid?

I'm based in Hemel Hempstead :)

Yeah a 2nd hand crank is deffo going to be the cheaper route :)

I went and spoke to my garage last night. They are going to get cracking on pulling the engine out, and then they will clean it and wrap it, then I will either bring it over to you myself or they will get it over to you. I am only in Stansted so I am not a million miles away...

So if thats ok with you???

Obviously it wont happen straight away, knowing the guys who have my car it will take a week or two to get around to it. I will PM you my contact details if needed later on when I get home from work.

If you deem the crank as unusable I will get one from PPS.

hi im looking into getting a engine rebuild do i have to book it in or just turn up im looking for a engine capable of 350-370bhp can you give a rough quote?

Dan@DB-Power
23-01-2008, 12:16
Hi Nick

It's a case of when one is ready, I'll post it in here :)

You can pre-book one if you wish though. I have 3 being built at the moment which will be ready in about 2 months :)

As for one for 350-370bhp you would be looking at around £3100 with an engine exchange and will include 256 or 264 cams, forged pistons, uprated conrods, ACL race bearings etc :)

for £7k you should be able to get 370bhp easily  dependant on what suspension you want etc?

(brakes and stiffer suspension if i can afford at time)
have i missed anything
and i will get remap done, unless i get good price!

Z32 AFM
Jez Stage 3 or similar
GT2871R turbo
Manual boost controller
Boost Gauge
Oil Pressure Gauge
Oil Temp Gauge
Brake kit
anti roll bars
Clutch
