Hello,

I am about to kill my PC. Wipe it and start again as it is getting really bogged down.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
My old IT chap at work told me to do the following:

1. Put Windows ME CD in

2. Boot from CD-Rom

3. Then Start computer with CD-Rom support.

4. D: (return)

5. CD Win9x (return)

6. Format C:

7. Setup
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Does this all sound ok? How do I get the computer to boot from the CD and not the HDD? to be able to do the above?

Try and get Windows 2000 mate, I wouldn't bother with ME. If you get 2000, just boot from CD, and it will do all the rest for you (i.e. format disk etc...) - dead easy do. :)

To get it boot from CD you need to go into your computer's BIOS. When you reboot your PC you get that black screen - it tells you which button to press - usually 'DEL' of something. When you get in there have a look for where it shows C, A, CDROM or something, then just change the order in which they boot, so that CDROM is first. Make sure the CD is in your drive, then reset and Windows 2000 will install.

Yeah, if your going to the bother of starting from scratch get yourself a moody copy of XP or 2000, I'm sure someone on here will oblige, or your IT bod may sort u out.

Win ME is SHITE

is XP much better than ME?

I am a bit reluctant to buy it as I might get a new computer in May/June time, which would come with XP. 3GHz beast for me!

Girlfriend is complaining that Sim City 4 plays to slow (I have an original Geforce 32mb Graphics Card)

Strange thing is the game plays fine for a while then it becomes slow as scrolling. odd. I thought I would kill it a start a fresh, normally do this each year or so to get rid of the sh1te that builds up. 2-3gb is unkown crap and strange files for old programs etc.

Yep XP/2000 is very different to ME.

Well worth getting a copy, ask your IT bod if he's got a cracked copy, if not go here and get one.

And you may be able to upgrade your PC for a fraction of the price of a new one.

About £300 quid will sort you with an up to date spec.
