might sound dumb but ehre goes

on motorways and tripple carriage ways isn't it illegal for lorries to go in the "fastest" lane??

and shud it apply to dc's aswell, cuz i recon so, theres not a lot of ppoint on a lorry over taking another lorry when both are limited roughly to 57 mph

Large articualted lorries aren't allowed in the 3rd (or 'fast') lane.

Yeah, I thought that "towing" vehicles weren't allowed in the third lane, but can use both lanes of a DC

If the nearside lane is closed/blocked or say a gritter in the middle lane than you may use the fast lane.

Lorries below 7.5t can use the third lane.

Thing is what happens if the lorry driver is stuck behind some old coffin dodger in a metro doing 40mph on the duel carriageway?

I wouldnt wish that upon anyone. The cant sit for miles on end behind someone doing 40mph when they can do 56mph. They have to be somewhere and run a pretty tight schedual.

Cheers,

Richard

I was always under the impression that if you were towing something regardless of weight you couldn't use lane three - I know coaches etc. are ok in the 3rd lane but does the 7.5 tonne limit apply if you aren't articulated?

About 5-6 years ago coaches were banned from using the 3rd lane of a motorway

Thats correct. A 7.5t lorry wouldn't be articulated but if it was towing a trailer it would not be allowed in lane 3.

I have to agree about lorries overtaking each other. I've been held up for miles when one attempts to overtake another with about 1 mph difference in speed. There should be a way of charging them for the time they spend in the outside lane of dual carriage ways. A little difficult to do now I agree, but I'm sure there could be a way. Perhaps they should spend some stealth tax, sorry I meant to say, safety camera revenue looking into this. If it costs lorry drivers a bit of money to spend a long time overtaking then they may be a bit more careful.

i reacon the government should make office workers use public transport so it frees up the roads for us lorry drivers (the real bread winners) :p :D :D

The 3rd lane is for BMW / WVM and bikes. :)

here here, and it should be illegal to take kids to school in motor vehicles. my day is so much shorter during school holidays

Or alternatively all of the 'school mums' doing the run in their ridiculous chelsea taxis/transits with windows should only be allowed to take the kids to school in them if every seat is occuppied. I saw seven minibus type things this morning in a row (my route to work takes me past a middle school) with one kid in them. Shouldn't be allowed.
