just thought i'd post a quick pic of todays work.. the car is now amazing compared to the bren device...

should have spent longer sanding down the MDF plate i made for a better contour and smoother finish, but oh well, its good enough for now :)

cheers for helping with the setup dude, would have been quite dangerous trying to do it on my own

No worries.

I've tried to do it once myself but it is too dangerous. Leigh tried to help once but she was moaning about the car and how quick it was and did not understand the controller. Third time was my bro but as the avcr is in the side vent i could do things myself:thumbs:

Wow, they're really dinky!

Mine is going behind the ashtray lid, for uber stealth-ness!

ash tray lid is a good idea! you might need to move the NATs box and cut out a small flap of plastic behind the actual tray (as well as butchering the tray itself :D )

the display is tiny, but its quite a deep unit, especially the way the boost hose connects into the back, you need quite a bit of clearance

Nice install. What vinyl is that you have used? Its a perfect match! Im looking for something similar!

Also, did it stick to the MDF easily?

its just a cut off that was used to do my a-pillars - http://www.t-e-j.com/img/install/5.jpg

unfortately I don't actually know the original source, I just get hold of it via a couple people on Talkaudio, its the same stuff Blue Boy has used on his centre console and the match is near on perfect!

it sticks really easily, i've used much worse stuff in the past! this is nice and stretchy too

You dont by any chance have the measurements for this, as I could do with one just like that potentially :)

measurements for the profec display or the mounting plate? if you want the profec measurements, let me know, if you want the size of the plate just remove the ashtray and measure the void :)

I have a profec B, and I have the ash tray, I just wondered if you might have made a temple to the whole thing, including how you mounted the profec to the panel, to make life easy for us hopeless non-practical people?

Cheers

I made a very rough template out of card, but it wasn't the best one as it was too high...

basically you need to make it about 120mm wide, 57mm high, and cut a whole roughly centre that is about 80mm x 21mm... (i'd advise you go larger for the outer dimensions, and slightly smaller for the inner ones, then file down as necasary to give a nice tight fit)...

to get the curved face ( i cocked mine up a little) remove the ashtray's fascia/lid (held on by a screw either side) then trace the curvuture with a pen/pencil onto each side of your MDF piece and slowly file it down.. (do this before you cut the centre hole for the profec, otherwise you will weaken the MDF and it may split)

I then covered with black vinyl and the fit was pretty tight, but even so i had some little L bracket things that were sticky backed.. i screwed them into the MDF and used the sticky backing to secure them onto the profec (if that makes sense?) - basically the L bracket was screwed into the MDF and stuck onto the profec..

i have a few brackets spare i think, if anyone needs some :)

thats pretty much it, just be patient with the filing, the longer you take to get a better finish, the better it'l look when vinyl'ed up :)

all right, sounds simple enough ;) I wonder if anybody will want my boost guage and stainless plate which is in there at the moment ;)
