View Full Version : New speed limit
Someone wanna suggest this to our government ?? :-
The Italian Ministry of Transport has decided to do something about its incredibly high traffic accident rate, by increasing the speed on its motorways to 150kph (93mph). The department made the move after consulting psychologists and doctors who said that people who drive fast, drive better and take more care
They'll never go for it, unfortunately.
Sorry, but I genuinely believe the only way to cut road accidents is to have a blanket 30mph limit on all roads in this country.
Dont the majority of road accidents happen at 30 - 40 mph though ??????
People pulling out of side roads into traffic, rear end shunts at traffic lights ??
Or were you joking ???
I'll get my coat if you were

Is that for real? They went and asked a couple of psychologists to advise them on road safety policy??
You could ask my dog for advice, and get better ideas than our government could come up with!
Yup ... its true ... I'll post the link (off of the MCN website) just as soon as the mail server comes back again

Doah .... where did it go .... hang on
I Give up ........ it says this :-
Speed limits are being raised in Italy to improve road safety.
Italian transport minister Pietro Lunardi believes higher speeds will improve the traffic flow, and encourage motorists to pay attention. The change will affect three-lane motorways, with the limit raising to 150km/h (93mph), from January 1, 2004. Lunardi went on to say that psychologists and doctors say people who go faster drive better and are more careful, and that only 9 per cent of fatal accidents were caused by speeding.
The decision has been praised by the Assocation of British Drivers. ABD spokesman Nigel Humphries was " ecstatic. It seems common sense is percolating through the road safety establishment in Italy. " He feels a similar speed would be sensible for UK motorways, where " no-one would be stopped for less than 100mph. "
Do you think that the speed limits on motorways are too low in the UK? Comment on this story by posting a message on the News board by following the link on the right.
