View Full Version : RR event at STAR
right i've spent ages looking for info on faulkland performance. turns out they're on the web as
Scotland Superchips (http://www.scotland.superchips.co.uk)
I've emailed them enquiring about a rr event and i'm sure they're gonna want to know numbers so post here if you're interested.
Also, I've organised a pi55 up in a brewery but this is the first time I've started organising a proper event, so this so if anyone fancies giving me any advice I'd appreciate it ;) :D

Is that falkland performance in Glenrothes. If it is I think they got rid of there rolling road. Went there last year and the guy told me he thinks the RR is crap and dosnt give real power output. They might have it back in tho.
Another place in Glenrothes is star performance (www.starperformance.co.uk) I know they have a RR. They are VW specialist. They've got a RR for 4 wheel drive vehicles. Worth giving them a call. I think they charge something like £20 for a horse power reading if you can get 12 people.
Hope this helps!!

oh balls! we'll see what they say then :) cheers for the info
oh well I'll get in touch with star as well then eh?:D
guess the title of this thread needs changing to something like " RR event somewhere in Scotland" then eh Kev - nudge nudge:D
From star's website :
"Star Performance offer a "Rolling Road Shootout" service to clubs wishing to stage one of these popular events. This is a great chance for your club to get together for an event to see who really can "walk their talk" when it comes to how powerful their car is. We have also hosted inter-club shoot-outs where the friendly rivalry between clubs can be out ot the test.
The shoot-outs are typically hosted on a Sunday with preferably 12 to 16 cars to attend for the event to be worthwhile for your members. Cost varies according to the type of car (4x4's and turbo cars can be more expensive), and number of cars on the day but is usually around £20 each. Each vehicle will receive a colour plot to show Power, Torque and Boost (where applicable). "
sounds like they're mor geared up for this kind of event already :) interested?

From Star:
The cost is £25.00 for 2 wheel drive & £40.00 for 4 wheel drive. Say between 10-16 cars. Feb & March are full
looks like we need a few more cars then :)
Sorry guys, I'm getting a Powerflow fitted next Sat (22nd) then off to Ricky Gauld's RR in Huntly (north of Aberdeen) on Sat 1st March (£45+vat/hour) to get it all set up...
I'm off to star this sunday for a day. costing us £20 per car. he wants no more than 15 cars. cooling is very good and they post the boost curve on the graph

Midgers,
Have to tried RGM next to Faulkland performance and Star? They deffo used to have a RR because I knew someone who worked there.
I'll have a quick search for thier website.
Dunc.
Here you go boys:-
http://www.rjmperformancetuning.co.uk/services.cfm
Just a 2WD RR though.
Dunc.
Looks good Dunc, but Gee wouldnt be able to run.
Can someone e-mail them pls cos my e-mail is fooked up at the mo, changing from aol to broadband.
Kev
Hi Graham, Thanks for the enquiry, we are currently installing the rolling road after moving into larger premises, we had it up & running yesterday on test & everything seems ok, however at the same time we are going to install new software to run with the road so i would imagine another 2-4 weeks before being fully operational. This would possibly work in well with your own time scale.
Price wise is normally £30.00+vat (35.25) per car for a straight forward power run, working on a min of 10 cars.
I hope this helps you, if you need any more info or want an update on our progress dont hesitate to get in touch.
Thanks again, Clive Jenkins.
so roll up ROLL up :D
Whats the latest?
Are we having this RR day at Star or at the 2WD only RR meaning that I couldn't run:(
When is this going to be a deffo?
Mr. M, u been scanning the strathycruise site again?
That sig pic looks familiar....................
Peeps can we have a definite yes or no to coming to this?
Who would prefer the 2wd rr and who would prefer the 4wd rr?
Im a defo if its anything between a month and 2 months.
Come on guys lets get this organised!!!!!!
I am a defo if it's at Star's 4WD RR.
I'm itchin to find out how much power the 'R is pushing.
okay,
people who've said they want to go are:
tonnie +1?
kev
gee 4x4

Kenny 4x4

dunc... maybe
Mike.... maybe
dobergoose :)
I reckon we'll need another 2-3 cars to keep the quoted prices.
RJM seem to be able to fit us in sooner but star is 4x4 capable and seem to be more geared up for this kind of event already :)
(yes kev it's off the strathycruise board.... how did you know that?)
:p
probably count me out, but keep me posted.

Doubt it guys, next time for sure. Unless its nearer 2 months time :(
Mr. M id suggest u find out when u have a defo weekend off, and set the date as that in say a month or so's time.
Then peeps can have a definite date and time to sort out probs b4 that.
Also, im sure u can add Martin to that list.
And maybe Kenny would wanna check out the bhp from his scoob?
Mike, thought u were getting urs done this week?

mine's being done this Saturday... 18psi and 15degree BTDC (you'll get your ECU back soon - still living at same address?) so I cant justify cost of another session within a month or two! Want to run a sweep on what bhp I'll get?
I've emailed star requesting available dates for april as they said feb&march are full :)
Mr > M, cool!
Mike, i reckon around 200@wheels.
Is it at 18psi just now, or more importantly was it at 18 at crail?
Kev
ps. yeah mate, same addy

I think star performance would be better. Is it not cheaper aswell, £20
I'll Deffinately be going as long as it isnt a friday or sat after 6pm.
You should posts dates available and then we could get deffinate awnsers.
Tonnie
okay, 13th and 20th of April are available. I'm voting for the 13th :)
please tell me if this is a problem otherwise I'm gonna tell them to book us in for then:)

hi mr m
count me in and i'll bring along the scooby - having a ball in
it right now - the power delivery is so different from the 200
its all low down torque
now I know why there so devastating A to B
its standard so I'm at a disadvantage to you guys modded 200s
i can make the 13th but not the 20th (its easter sunday).
cheers

Hi
13th would be OK for me.
This will give me time to complete all mods (S1 Chip, ND BUK and DV before going)
Need to get an accurate reading for Insurance renewal.
I was going to CarScan in Fountainbridge in Edinburgh to do a full test for £60 but I'll come along here instead.
Alan
i will go if its ok with you guys and i can make any date:D

Yeah, bring it on - we're not scared of you 300 boys....... Well OK, just a little bit :D
Found this while doing tubby hunting, looks like a smaller place and probably not as professional as star:-
http://www.mvturbos.com/
Bit late now anyway, seems like alot of peeps are up for the 13th, you never know I might be up and running by then. Change me to a maybe from my previous "NO", if there's no room nearer the date then fair enough.
Dunc.
The 13th is fine by me!:D
List updated and I've emailed star telling them we're on for the 13th :D

If we're short on numbers I'm sure my mate andy with the 206gt shopping trolley would come along, just means none of our guys would have lowest output:D :D :D
Any objections?
no probs with me : are you a definate then too martin?
I'm up from 50/50 to 80/20 likely to attend... I've just got to find the right time to let my wife know having just bought 1xexhaust 4xtyres 1xmodel 180sx 1xRRsession on Saturday... am I under the thumb?

I should have all my stuff done by then so yes.:)
since im a pish mod i dunno how to make this into a poll, so u wanna start a differant thread with a poll to see how many definites we have Graham.
Kev
I make it 10 including myself with 3 maybes, I've been keeping tabs on ths thread and updating the list on page 2 :)
A poll could be worth a shot tho to get Definate numbers... I'm gonna wait till i hear back from star before I make another move tho just to see what they say about the date and ammount of cars etc :)

Hi Mr M
if we are allowing friends along then one of my work mates
would be up for it. He has a modded FTO in bright yellow.
Its worth it just to see it & hear it - it has a fab body kit
& the v6 sounds superb with its very loud exhaust
are you ok with that? let me know,
thanks Kenny
On a seperate note:
Kev, do you want to put your admin
skills to use and change the title of this thread to
RR event at star rather than falkland. just a thought.
cheers
kenny
the more the merrier as far as i'm concerned :D
I'll just have to make sure we don't have too many cars at this rate ;) :D
Still awaiting reply from star... I'll phone them if i don't hear anything today :)

Hi
I've got another two friends willing to attend - making 3 friends in total.
Now, I'm sensitive to the fact that we don't want
it to be overrun by non-200 owners, they won't be
offended.
MrMidgers, how many spare places are there?
Has anyone got any objections - one has a rx-7 (keeping it
in the jap sports car family) the other a westfield (keeping
it british)?
Cheers
Kenny
still no news from star, I'll ring them later on today or tomorrow when I get 5 minutes spare
They originally said 10-16 ish cars tho and we're at that just now, I will confirm exactly how many places we have as soon as I can :)
If anyone else wants to ring them on my behalf I'd appreciate it coz it's a bit tricky getting an outside line today:mad: and I'm just sneaking 20 mins on my boss' computer while he's supping tea (again):)

if you get a 200 owner wanting my space then its cool with me  its a 200sx outing after all;)
Just phoned Star, answerfone says "sorry but we are closed till tuesday the 4th of march."
I'll phone back on tuesday :)
if there's still space for me and no.1 son on 13/4 then put me (and my 210bhp at the wheels beast) down... wife and other 3 kids are going to London so I'm free....! :D :D :D
Date confirmed :D

Do the engines come out of the top 300zx's? Just asking because they don't look like they'd fit
Sounds like a time consuming job, what's up?
i got rid of my 2+2 twin turbo and got cash plus a 2 seater 300zx non turbo but ive just bought a twin turbo engine which is now away for a rebuild so im in non turbo form at the moment and was up at crail on sunday with a best time of 16.393:o
Thats a shit time (no offence intended). I like your methodology though: Crap time at crail - Stick a twin turbo v6 in  :D

it was a wet time if that helps;)
the other problem is the gear ratio's in the non turbo are crap ie 1st=38mph 2nd=55mph 3rd=89mph:confused:
OK I'll let you off since its in the wet :D
What are the gear ratio's on the turbo like? Are you changing boxes as well then?

i am going to keep this box at first til i get the funds for a 6 speed box from unique autosports in australia but the ratio's in my turbo were 1st=45mph 2nd=72mph 3rd=110mph 4th=135mph and i never found the limit in 5th:rolleyes:
110mph in 3rd is perfect for 1/4mile runs, no need to change to 4th unless you've got serious power.
6 speed box - lucky git, how much will that skin you?
its about 2k for the 6 speed box but ive got all this other stuff to pay for first (engine rebuild at around 5k 720cc injectors big front mout intercooler 2x jwt sport 500 turbo's aftermarket ecu 2x airflow meters and a nos kit) and i reckon the standard box wont take 700bhp+ for too long:D oh and traction control

the problem i find with that is im just about at the finish when it starts banging off the rev limiter:confused:
I can never decide if its better to have low gears but an extra gear change, or higher gears with one less gear change? Must be a fine line.
Alot of us 200sx boys have the dilema of changing into 4th or rattling it off of the limiter in 3rd for the final few meters of the 1/4 mile run. I've been changing to 4th (terminal velocity 98mph) but it might be quicker staying in third?
BTW 700bhp
Dunc.
dunc, 700bhp is the estimated figure after the rebuild its marc(crail loser) who will be doing most of the work on the car but the bad news is im stuck with no turbo power for the rest of the year:( as for the gear change im not sure as to which is best i got a 16.393 at 90mph banging off the limiter in 3rd and a 16.436 at 91.1 changing to 4th the reaction time was 0.471:o on the first run and 0.759 on the run i changed to 4th

Its worth tryin to change gear at different revs for different gears, not just the 3rd to 4th dilema.
