View Full Version : Strange tips request
Hi,
Car 200SX RS13 CA18DET stage 3 (a litle bit over 300HP between 5000 and 7000rpm) + S15 HLSD
this weekend i'll take part in a drag race, the problem is that I'll compete against a 0pel Speedster (1000kg 300HP)
what can i do to win ? answer: nothing :censored:
what can i do not to lose so badly ?
any advice from people with experience will be appreciated
- tire pressure?
- take of the back and passenger seats, spare tire , not to much fuel, lightweight driver :p (or by removing weight mainly from the back of the car will affect traction ?)
- horse power will not be increased, so any other tweaks that helps should be done
:notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy

Fit standard rear suspension and borrow some drag slicks...
Fit standard rear suspension and borrow some drag slicks...
If the Opel is that light with that much power and isnt running slicks, it might be closer than you think ;)
Remove power steering/air con belts and tape up all of your shut lines as well :D
put nismo, gtir etc stickers on your car,
and dont remove your seats put them flat
No, ABS, no aircon on my car
standard suspension + powerflex bushes
S15 HLSD do a good job
Dunlop SP9000 tires 225/50-ZR16
good clutch
Fit standard rear suspension and borrow some drag slicks...
and fit a decent clutch   :D removing the rear ARB will also help
put nismo, gtir etc stickers on your car,
i said i do not want to increase the power anymore and since each sticker you mentioned add a +5HP, i'll have to ship that mod :ghey:
what ARB means or what is that ?

heh! Is that still doing the rounds... :D
Seriously though, depends how far you want to go, and how much time you have.
Remove everything you can, that you don't need (or want to put back), including sound deadening, aircon rad / pump, hea shields, door cards, carpets, etc etc etc.
here is a movie when i was on stage 1 ~240HP and he was stock 200HP (T25 could not keep boost and i loosed on 3rd and 4th gear)

ARB - Anti Roll Bar
ARB - Anti Roll Bar
ok now second question, how does the fact i'll remove it will help car performance on straight line ?

The anti roll bar is for reducing roll in cornering. It achieves this by linking the left and right suspension arms. When the outside arm is pushed upward by cornering forces, the inside one is lifted by the ARB (to a lesser extent, depending on how stiff the bar is), keeping the car (more) level.
It would make sens that in a straight line you want to maximise contact woith the tarmac, so in the event of tramp, where a well loses contact, you don't want to lift the other. I guess as well, that the ARB stiffens the suspension altogether, but in a drag you want that rear weight transfer where the car sits on it's arse.
Someone else might be able to confirm or refute this though!

Weight the car on the handbrake before dumping the clutch. Just before the lights turn green, bring the clutch up to its biting point, and hold the car on the handbrake. When you pull away, the transmission is under much more stress if it suddenly transfers from unloaded to full load. This method will reduce the chance of anything breaking.
You also want the suspension to be pretty soft, allowing the car to squat at the back (but NOT bottoming out) giving you maximum weight transfer to the driving wheels.
