View Full Version : my "business" idea

I'd like some opinions about my idea.
Basically, I have always believed that everyone should be able to enjoy sports cars in one form or another, but unfortunately many people have a lifestyle which means they cannot afford to have one or it's just plain inconvenient for them to own one (ie they don't have space for more than one car in their life and that car must be a family oriented car).
So here's my idea: http://www.geocities.com/corneringfun/budgetsports/
Don't know if it will make much money at all, but if the worst comes to the worst I can just have a bit of fun in it and then sell it on. I have chosen the MX5 cos its a proper RWD low-slung, 2 seater, soft-top, and handles well, plus with pop up lights it adds to the "specialness".
Cheers.

hmm well since there are no replies but quiet a few "post views" is it cos you guys don't give a t0ss either way or think it's such a good idea that you've all rushed out to set up rival businesses yourselves?
so would you or people you know rent an mx5 for £100 a day for a partner or friend or relative?
-D
Interesting idea but then there are a few companies that already do stuff like this :(

It could work yes, but like Dave said there are already companies out there doing stuff like this, check out ad's in mags such as Top Gear, Autocar etc...
Also don't know about costs etc., but £100 a day for an MX5... I personally wouldn't pay that.
Good luck with it anyway mate!
Mick
now if it was £100 per day to rent your TVR :D :D

Its a good idea, i saw a program on tv about a company just outside bristol who do a similar thing!
With my filthy mind i would spend the £100 on a lady of the night ( classy one of course ) who for that money she would let me take her top down and maybe have fun with her rear end! She would be oriental too like the mx5 and definately soft up top, and even tho what pops up on me r not headlights i am sure it would be money well spent!:D
downside is i woudl only get an hour, but not sure i could handle such a sporty ride for much longer!!!:D
Its not a new idea, but it would make you money if it wasn't an MX5.
I find the best thing to do with that kinda money is buy a fecked XR2i at an auction, rag the fcuk out of it for a day on the moors, then burn it out

mx5 no way would i pay a oner to drive that for a day, but your TVR, well thats another matter, i would probably dust the cobwebs off my wallet for that.

thats my concern... is the mx5 not worth the effort. I think it's an underrated sports car, which would be the problem! Maybe I'll buy a classic tvr like a tvr 400i (wedge shape with 4 litre v8 i think) and rent that out for £150 a day... comments?
have a look at http://www.geocities.com/corneringfun/budgetsports/ again...
-Darren
didn't know they done a 400i
there is definately a 350i 3.5 litre v6/8 can't remeber which is pretty quik cheap and cheerful
why not an s13 thinking about it, roughly same top end i think as 350i not sure bout 350's 0-60 but s13 cheap as chips and we all know it goes and can be upgraded cheaply. plus it wud get us known if u had the sxoc sticker on it

Could be a good idea but how does the insurance work??
You've also got to bear in mind that if I were to hire your TVR I'd try my hardest to blow the fecker up, after destroying your tyres of course.........sorry but I just would:)
Kinda like the 'Netto' of novelty car hire :):)

You would make more cash out of buying an old Daimler or something and using it as a wedding car.
We're getting married in August and you have to book 6-12 months in advance for most peeps, this indicates a great demand for this kind of service, and you can charge a lot more than £150 a day.
Just a thought.
The guys are right Ninja, this kind of thing is done quite a lot and I'm not sure you'd make money out of an MX5. Perhaps you'd be better with an MGB Roadster or the aforementioned E type? Most people don't look on the MX5 as a "special" car
There's a club which has a fleet of classic cars and when you pay to join you get a block of credits to use throught the year to swap for time driving cars. Obviously an hour in an E type costs more than an hour in a Morris Minor:)

snag about any turbo cars is that people will thrash it and then turn the engine off... and we all know what happens when people do that...
plus if i get a "slow" car then it'll attract a different type of driver. i'll have a think, and get back to you. the wedding car idea is good but i want something i can have fun with too :)
hmm what about being chauffeured to the wedding in a TVR, roof down? (not too fast or you'd mess your hair up) How much would that be worth, and for photo opportunities afterwards...

That would be a good idea, is there a 4 seater soft top TVR (or other sports car) that you could ferry the bride & groom from the church to reception in???
I would deffo choose this over a crappy old Roller/Daimler any day.
Even better would be to hire a convertible 360 Modena for ME to drive the misses to the recpetion, imagine; the two of you dressed up to the nines, sun shining, engine howling......cool as feck.....I don't think I d get to the reception though :)

the only car that springs to mind that is 4 seater and can fit grown adults would be a ferrari mondiale... things like merc sl500s are 2+2's, TVR 2+2s are all hard tops...
oh a bmw m3 cabriolet i suppose... not really special enough in my opinion.
