We have dismantled three SR20DETs now, the 1st suffered a melted piston due to lean running, the second has over heated and picked up the piston rings slightly.

SR20DET Short engine 325

This engine was removed from the ex Ian harrison EDC car we recently bought from Mitch. The engine is a standard SR20 which had the mains and big-ends recently changed.

We have removed this engine because it didnt develope any pressure in the cooling system due to a cracked cylinder head. The cylinder head was cracked through to the intake side, so the short engine does not have any water in the oil and is undamaged.

Before removal the engine ran nicely no nasty noises, the only fault was a nonpressurising cooling system which was traced to the cylinder head.

Yes, I think its still with the engine parts on the shelf, but I cannot vouch for its condition as we never heard this engine running. You are welcome to buy and try though.

Im not sure on the mileage, it was from a guy who bought one of the S15 engines from us. I will try and trace who it was and see if I can find this info out.

Yes we still have the head at the unit.

Its hard to say either way whether the head is OK or not, you would be best to get it pressure tested by a machine shop and checked for trueness.

I think all the ones we have seem to have the pesky EGR valve, I will double check in the box next time we are there.

Viscous fan is no probs, sorry we dont have any cylinder heads.
