View Full Version : NTL Broadband and planned limit to service
Looks like NTL are thinking of restricting users to 1Gigabyte transfer per day.

Someone who isn't too happy about this:

Some people will not be happy no matter what thay get. I have to share a 64K connection at home, with a limit of 120 hours per month.

I'm on NTL cable, and although I tihnk me using 1Gb a day is not that likely, or if I do it's not that frequent it's still a bitch that they are allowed to move the goal posts mid contract.
Martin, can you not get a proper service to your house?

Glad I went with free-online then, I did consider NTL but went the cheaper route instead. Very happy with the service. My old man was bitching last night that they couldnt get anything, I told him to move to a more civalised part of the country then :D they've only been able to have gas to the house in the past 10 years, even though one of the biggest gas pipes in the UK is buried 500mtrs from the house  they've got no chance with cable or broadband.
If I was on NTL I'd be royally screwed.
I must download about 5gb a day 7/365. I know I know, it's not legal but fcuk that. If I was paying £35 a month I'd bloody well want the service I was paying for.
Sometimes I go on a Linux Tip and download all the latest versions of each distro to check them out.
RedHat: 5 cds = 3GB
Suse: About 3 cds = 1.8GB
The list goes on, I couldnt even download ONE of them in one day if I wanted to :(
BT, Sky and Nildram for all I say :D

March 21st, Broadband is arriving at my exchange. Then i'll go for the 512k service (limit 20MB/h 9am-6pm averaged over a month)
The limit equates to ISDN speed roughly then, and out of those hours, no limit!
Whilst NTL are quite clearly a bunch of W*nkers, if you need to average over 1 Gig per day for a long time, then you should pay for it.
What NTL have done wrong is sign people on, then change the contract, whilst still advertising unlimited 24/7

I'm still stuck with a dial-up that i'm lucky to get 43k out of, and no mains gas. 1Gb a day is only a pipe dream for me...But i've got an E3 to myself all day at work and that's free :-)

Mark my words all the other isp's will follow suit. If they know NTL can get away with it, then that's exactly what they'll do.
