View Full Version : Dal's madesuper s13
Hi all,
I have finally got around to working on my own car at last:D
I was only planning a rebuild on the CA but a nice deal came up on a complete RB20DET from a 1993 R32 with 55k on the clock.
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/RB1.jpg
Came complete with box, loom ,turbo, crossmember the lot all from the same car all for a nice round £400 lovely jubbly:wack:
So Ive up the ante and gone for a respray at the same time so while Im waiting for the gasket set from Japan to arrive Ive stripped the Rb down and polished/painted and cleaned everything I could.

Thats as far as Ive got with the engine really Ive cheacked the condition off the shells and took a piston out everything looks sweet and will do for me until a rebuild can be funded.
Just a good clean up and new nissan gaskets will make me happy for now:D .
Convinced the boss to let me get the car down work to get the car done before our busy period kickes in, Thanks boss:D

Thought you were at stage 3 already on the ca.. Why RB20 power?
2 main reasons why im going Rb powered more reliability, since I went stage 3 my cars never been off the road so much produce the same amount of hp with minimal mods on the Rb plus more torque and second and most important the NOISE:D

Ive found a standard ecu in america i think, bit pricey but Ive heard they are a bit sort after. Id rather pay that than pay power fc prices:eek:

Have you been nicking my parts again Mr Westrip?
You might aswell, wont be using them EVER again - go for it.
Anything else in the warehouse that is mine.. - just have it mate... Im not going to need it anymore...
PLEASE try and save my headunit + cd changer tho... - would be good if you could sort that. - Cheers.
Again all I can see is red crosses - I will have a proper look tonight when I get back from work.
Went out for a scud in the Type R yesterday.. Covered a nice 200kms - and boy is she fast... at some points - it feels faster than my S13 til about 100mph. - when the old datsun would say bye bye
Hi all

After all the messing around waiting for filler and primer to dry on some bad spot she was ready to paint about 12ish.
TBH I didnt like it at first but it has grown on me it definitely needs another coat (paints on its way)It came out very patchy Im blaming it on how cold it was as when we sprayed the V8 it was warmer then and that came out much better first time oh well see what you think??
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/290920071126.jpg

I cant really do anymore on the car itself until the paint gets here so Im trying to get this engine built.
First thing I did was paint it a better colour
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/011020071137.jpg
Now Im halfway through the mammoth task of lapping all these in!
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/021020071139.jpg
The inlet valves are pretty good really
before
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/021020071145.jpg
After a bit off coarse paste
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/021020071146.jpg
The exhaust valves are pretty bad
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/021020071148.jpg
But they lapped in good
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/021020071150.jpg
Ive just got to finish the fine coarse off tomorrow then get the head built back up and get it all ready to go in! If I manage to find some torque settings for it.
Thanks for looking hopefully another update tomorrow
cheers
Dal
Nice work Dal, good work on getting it done in such short time, but it definately needs more paint as you say.
Both the primer and topcoat looked a little patchy, but as you say the conditions probably didn't help.
Get a few more good coats of the satin black on here and it should be looking nice :)
Will be intersting to see how the RB20 conversion goes as well, as this is something I was considering when my CA goes tits!

good work fella. you'll enjoy her when its running:cool:
try trackdayperformance for an ecu, i got one for mine for €100, about £60.
it had come off a car he had upgraded to management
they are on tdp.ie or robbie on 0044 404 62650

Don't know if you ever heard mine but yeah, the noise is a lot lot nicer. It's not so much just the torque increase as much as it's the improved driveability across the range, it makes boost so much earlier and really pulls low down - the S13 with a T28 used to struggle where the RB just takes off. Even from silly figures like 4th gear at 1500rpm, it's still workable.
Coming along quite nicely and very quickly as usual.
I see what you mean regarding the paint... keep spraying hopefully it will turn out alright :)
Arry's car sounds the nuts...
With your HKS exhaust, I am really looking forward to driving... I mean hearing that ;) :wack:
she's lookin good dal, will have to pop down soon and take a nosey at the progress
Hi all
Update for you, Since last update Ive been getting this engine back together and cleaning a checking everything over. All the valves are lapped in and I started the lovely job off getting the valve springs back in, Colet's are a pain in the ****!
I found the best way to do it was use a screwdriver and a bit of grease ( I used molygrease) inside the Colet and on the screwdriver It helps it stick and stay there. Alot of patience is needed with this job I had many fag breaks during this task:wack:
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/041020071152.jpg
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/041020071153.jpg
Next job tappets, 10 off them were ok nice a soft the other 14 were rock hard so off to the vice for a bit of bleeding and were back on track!
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/041020071154.jpg
Next thing was the cams was a bit worried about snapping them as spare ones will be a pain to get but all went well little at a time always works:nod:
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/041020071155.jpg
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/041020071156.jpg
Then I turned my attention to the block, got the sump back on with the 30 bolts that hold it in place.
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/051020071157.jpg
Then it was time for the 2 halves to become 1 again:D

Thats where I got to on Friday night, can't wait to get on with it really enjoying building this engine:nod:
anyway thanks for looking and thanks for all your comments so far
cheers
Dal:thumbs:
I'm a bit confused over the tappets , you say some were hard and needed bleeding ?, surly the hard ones were the ones filled with oil and doing there job ie not allowing them selves to be compressed and the soft ones that you could compress by hand should have either had air in or there was a fault with the little ball valve and they were not sealing, also if you compress the piston in the vice and allow it to expand back out then its going to draw air in and become squishy as you can compress air ??
Tappets are usually faulty because they either have muck in the valves or tiny oil holes blocked causing oil to either leak out or not pass through, or they are so covered in varnish that they stick and become seized.
I not long ago stripped the 24 out the vg because of tappet noise and discarded the ones that were not sealing or returning to correct position.

liking the look of this project
shame about the patchy paint though
don't envy you fitting the valves/collets remember what a PITA job it was on the XE and that's only 16 valves to do
I'm with fry on the tappets - my understanding is you shouldn't be able to compress them by hand, they should feel solid
Thats the way Ive always done tappets always works for me they are noisy at first then they become quiet and smooth.
Think about it though if it is solid as a rock then its going to tap knock etc on the valve or cam:confused:
All mechanics have different ways of doing things its just personal opinion really isnt it?

great project! Keep up the good work!:)

Think about it though if it is solid as a rock then its going to tap knock etc on the valve or cam:confused:
All mechanics have different ways of doing things its just personal opinion really isnt it?
The tappet works by holding pressure inside the center piston so that it pushes the tappet assembly and opens the valves, as the valve lifts off any slack is taken up by oil entering the center piston under pressure through the one way valve (little ball and spring), this is where the zero lash comes from, it automatically takes up any slack by expanding the piston with oil, if the piston fails to expand or has a faulty valve allowing oil to exit the piston or the tappet assy is seized then you get the tappet knocking.
Tappets should be tested immediately upon removal and you should not be able to compress them with your hands, a vice will however apply enough pressure to squeeze oil out past the valve and between the 2 half's of the piston.
Personal opinion is one thing but I wouldn't advise anyone to put tappets back in that were soft and squidgy when removed, without stripping cleaning and checking the valve and piston, this is all gained from my recent reading up and rebuilding of 30 odd tappets to make one good set, I did have some that were soft and one that were seized, I now have a nice quiet engine, well sort of quiet :D
I could be completely wrong on all of the above also :wack:
Dont get me started about tappets! Mine sounded awful, so I changed them all. Every single one was rock solid, changed all for squidgy ones and now she purrs. The gap between the cam and valve varies, thats the purpose of the tappets to take that gap up, whatever it may be. now if a tappets solid then its not going to be able to perform the job it was intended to do.
Rant over.
Nice progress Dal
Looks to be comming along nicely  you certainly don't hang about thats for sure
Will pop down Saturday to have a butchers if your going to be about, need some advice :D
now if a tappets solid then its not going to be able to perform the job it was intended to do.

Nice progress Dal
And if its squishy then its not going to be able to open the valves as it will squish instead of pushing the valves open :annoyed: , there is a difference between hydraulic effect of trapped oil and a seized tappet, when you can turn a set of noisy tappets into quiet ones we can start another thread, but enoughs been said so I wont take it off topic any further.
Good luck with the rest of the build
But the squishy ones will fill with oil and then take up the desired clearance? If you go over a certain valve lift then yeah they will be no good but being as mr nissan put them in that engine with that amount of cam lift I think they will be (and have been) just fine.

Blimey, you will have this in the car in no time.
Will be down to get my clutch fitted soon, just run out of money at the moment:(
Hi all,
Right time for an update now my phone cable has started working again!
Well theres alot of photos so here it goes
1st half off the inlet mani on
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/091020071185.jpg
Injectors and fuel rail in
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/091020071187.jpg
2nd half of the inlet
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/091020071189.jpg
Had to turn the front housing round abit for the actuator to sit right
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/091020071191.jpg
Got all the oil and coolant lines sorted
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/101020071198.jpg
Finished all the engine off with all small vacuum pipes and coolant pipes etc etc
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/101020071201.jpg
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/101020071200.jpg
Finally got all the clutch and box on ready for fitting
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/121020071211.jpg
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/121020071212.jpg
Then today it was car meet engine day:D
Got her on the ramp all ready
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/121020071213.jpg
Took all cross member, steering rack,ARB, tension rods and the big brackets that hold them on(great technical name! ) Left the lower arms on and moved them out off the way so I had maximum room.
Positioned the engine on axle stands, I guestimated the Position best I could
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/121020071214.jpg
Then It was a case off letting the ramp down slowly and bit by bit,
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/121020071215.jpg
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/121020071216.jpg
I was only 1inch out which if I do say so myself, it was purer luck:D
Bolted all the cross member up and I have temporary fixed the gearbox up with the standard s13 bracket but this is another job on the list.
Ive bolted everything back up and done a few other small jobs I had time for like braided clutch line, heater matrix pipes, throttle cables too short:annoyed: Anyone got any ideas is the s14s longer??
this is how I left her today
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/121020071219.jpg
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/121020071221.jpg
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/121020071222.jpg
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/121020071223.jpg
Im so happy but I still have a long way to go but its getting there thats all that matters:D
comments and suggestions welcome
cheers for looking

hi all,
Quick update Im doing the wiring at the moment  all I can say really:wack:
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/161020071231.jpg
As Im using the 444s I had to use the ca plugs the Rb ones wouldn't go straight on.
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/161020071232.jpg
Ive done all the starter/alternator/gearbox side of things fairly easy (ish)
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/181020071238.jpg
Tomorrow is working out all the eccs and fuel relays Ive done as much searching and reading threads as I can fined phil_ls thread has helped alot thanks mate:thumbs:
I had a break from wiring yesterday and thought Id tackle the gearbox mount
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/171020071233.jpg
spent about 2 hours messing about cutting metal and welding it all up, I ran out off time to finish it so ran upstairs to get a spare one, happened to pick up an auto one and to my amazement and happiness it bolted straight on:D
Major result in my book and could be of use to someone in the future.
thanks for looking

Dal - If you turned that mount round 180 degrees would it not mount using all 4 holes? Looks like it from the picture.

One side is higher than the other so probably not.
Bens right will not spin
Well done mate, very impressive almost there :) :sxoc:
sweet mate, what was the one that you cut up like in the end, is that an auto s13 mount then???

have you added dropping resistors for the 444s?

Updates Dal? You slipped to the second page.
Will pop over next weekend in the morning to check this out and the bits on my car.
Hi all time for an update me thinks,
Been very busy at home and at work especially work batteries dont like winter:( so progress has been abit slow but shes very close I can almost hear it!!
The wiring is 95% complete just needs going through again on the pin outs to make sure everythings in the right place etc.
Dropping resistors done, chip and ecu ready to go fingers crossed:D
sorted the exhaust out

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/011120071270.jpg
Shes also had another coat and looks a hell of alot better. Got another set of rims got to change the tyres and give them a good refurb but they were a good price and will do for now till wider rims are sorted.
Intake piping is really the only thing major left to do and that is being done by a local place taking it to them on wednesday(ish) so she should be on the road soon:D
Anyway this is how she looks at the moment

Im flat out this weekend mate doing a head rebuild and the car will more than likely be round the corner getting piping done but your more than welcome to pop down whenever mate:thumbs:
Thats comming along VERY nicely
Love the satin aswell :D :notworthy
Some good progress there mate, looking really good. The silver alloys look better than the black ones in my opinion. What size are they?
those wheels are so so similar to mine its untrue, just the rim lip is different,
get some spacers for them tho mate, they look like a worse offset than mine were before i had the spacers fitted, perfectly wide enough too as long as your not into :gay: stretches
i so want an rb now tho, how much do you think this install has cost so far if you dont mind me asking,
Dont worry spacers are in my tool box just need to get some longer studs:nod:
18s they are vaughn they are going black though mate sorry:D
TBH this conversion didnt cost that much really, but I think I have been lucky ie getting what I did for £400 and plus Ive done everything myself and saved so much on labour, parts at trade etc, at a guess Id say around £1500 on parts so far. There are a good few things that still need doing ie coilovers and bigger brakes etc but they will come in time. I need it back Its been too long:nod:
cheers for your interest

Hi all,
Bit of an update, After waiting a week and a half I couldn't wait anymore so Ive got here back from the place round the corner and Im going to finish the inter cooler pipe myself, starts today got a plan, goes into action tomorrow:D
While it was round there I sorted two of my bargain wheels, spent a day on each wheel pretty much.
they started the day like this

loving the wheels mate...awesome look to be fair
might be a silly question but jsut after a simple answer
does the engine go straight in, do you have to fabricate mounts etc ?
As long as you have the 32 crossmember and s13 auto gearbox mount it will bolt sraight in yes:thumbs:
I've got 2 massive spacers in my garage, I think they are 20mm. You're welcome to them if you want them?
How come the intercooler pipe work has taken so long?
May take you up on that offer thanks mate, Im trying 10 on the front and 15 on the rear first then If it needs more Ill give you a shout cheers.
I think the piping took so long because he is a busy man an said he'd do it 'in between jobs' to keep the price down.
I started again really, It came out ok i think, best I could do with the space I had and what I had in the workshop,
Reused the standard pipe and made up a plate to blank the recirc off, hope this doesnt cause major problems if it does one will be sourced.

It goes under the crank pulley and has enough room ill get some better pics when shes next up in the air.
After some dinner last night I went back down there to start going through the pinouts etc make sure Id done everything right.
After confusing myself for an hour or so I cracked it found the problem and we had fuel pump prime:D
Turned it over a few times and realised fuel pipes were the wrong way round:annoyed:
changed them round and it started:eek:
Sounded like crap though turned it straight off and had a check dame injector o rings are leaking so I really couldnt face doing that at 10pm so home I went, going back down there in a while cant resist it:D
Ill let you know what happens later

If you ground the welds back on the piping you could get it looking really nice, top job though!!!
love it mate, really am thinking of getting one myself now :)
whats this about needing dropping resistors to run 444cc injectors???
is it a real nightmare to wire the engine in too, thats the only thing that puts me off doing it,
oh yeah, are the manifolds interchangeable between the 25 and the 20, eg the exhaust so i can get a top mount to re use my current turbo

whats this about needing dropping resistors to run 444cc injectors???
the RB20 uses high imp 270cc injectors. you could always find some high impedence injectors but all the common nissan upgrades are low imp (ie gtr 444s)
ah i see, cool,
any news on that PM mate by the way???
mmmmmmmm well it runs but it doesnt sound good thats for sure. I had to stop as my braided turbo oil feed has cracked on one off the joints and pissed oil everywhere, oh well tomorrows another day:)
The RB uses a T3 mount so unless youve got a T3 I doubt youll be able to use your current turbo,
fingers crossed for tomorrow

yeah its t3 flange mate, i was wondering if they did a top mount turbo manifold for the rb25 and if it would fit on the rb20
Im not 100% sure they are the same, I know they do a top mount for the 20s Ive seen them lots but mostly xs power.
Yahoooooooooooooo there is life:wack:
Got her running sweet today and took it out for a drive minus power steering as the pumps got a bit of a leak new one on its way.
Few small finishing touches to sort out but hopefully she'll be on the road tomorrow.
Got a small vid which isnt great but its proof if nothing else.

Post a vid once it's complete the sound definately sounds better than a CA...
See what you mean now (see early post, earlier in this thread)
The pipes do take ages to make, I've dont mine 2 times now, once with 2.25 inch pipe withe the stock plenum and once with front facing plenum in 3 inch.
Cutting the angles right takes bloody ages.
Dont grind the welds down, its better when people can tell you did it rather than paid some fancy company to do it.
Some one took the piss out of mine and said have you not heard of mandrel bends.......... yeah I have a mandrel bender......
Any way, I wnet back under the front mount:

ive been looking at an rb 20 as a replacement for my ca, but its an auto so i need a gearbox and flywheel
she is abit juicy but I can put up with that, its only running about 6psi and feels quick as it is! Im not turning the boost up until this weather gets a bit better, but overall its a hell of alot better than the ca around town etc:nod: plus the added bonus of that noise:D

its cos the rb is soo similar to the ca, just looks longer visually, but internally it shares a lot of simiaritys,
and yes nissan really should have fitted one, they should have just fitted a 2.0 rb rather than that sr tat they decided to put in the 180s
I'm surprised you haven't relocated the battery to the boot, looks very tight.

Still for sale mate someone bought it on ebay for 6K:eek: but pulled out(shame:wack:) Lee wants me to change the heads back over as we have now been told they are wrong as in compression ratio so got that on my job list. well done mate!!
well mate, it looks like you have inspired a lot of people, (not forgetting the others who have done this too)
i will also be doing this soon too :)
just a quick few Qs bud while im here,
rev counter?? how did you convert it to take 6 cylinders
spedo?? does it still work like the origional off the ecu (i think)
propshaft?? did you get the RB front half and the CA rear half and get them mated together, any help with this would be great, i can do the cutting and shutting i just wondered how you did it measurements wise
Rev counter I still havent managed to get this to work yet, still trying to work out a way! Speedo I used the original speedo sender from the ca box and fitted it to the rb box fits straight on and works spot on. prop shaft Im using the standard ca one at the moment which needs lengthening around 2-3'' longer off the top of my head.
HTH mate
Cheers
Dal:thumbs:
Inspiring enough for me to think about maxing my credit card out again, after i did so well to clear it. Dal, man, i hate you!
Rev counter I still havent managed to get this to work yet, still trying to work out a way!
Rev counter needs a 10k ohm resistor across two of the screws on the back, then you can adjust it with the little screw on the unit itself to read correctly
Or if you happen to have a 180SX/Silvia SR20DET tacho lying around you can use that and adjust it, as it has the 10k resistor built in already...
HTH :)
dal, are you saying that the fittings on the CA prop also fit the RB gearbox it just has to have the length modified to suit the new engine position. if this is the case then it saves me getting a prop from an RB too,
thanks pete, i have a box of electrical gubbins here somewhere so ill have a look for a resistor, i like nice simple fixes like this :)
yeah the prop fits in the back of the rb box fine just needs the gearbox end lengthening then it will all bolt on as if nothings happened:wack:
cheers also pete I will try this when I get back to work:thumbs:
Man this is sweet. Nice work Dal
awsome, did you mod the crossmember to move the engine back as ''nize'' did or just bolted it in as is, only it may give you the ability to just use the prop as it is standard. which is even better. he also mentioned something about the gearstick being a little too far forward with the engine on the standard skyline crossmember, somthing i am going to try and avoid by moving it back a bit, (with the US mount kit :) )
did you do all the wiring yourself, how did you find it and do you have any hints and tips for somone about to do it. cant wait to join the RB club =]
I just bolted the crossmember up as it was, yes the gearstick is slightly forward but doesnt bother me at all. I cant see you taking up the prop gap with moving the engine back mine sits close enough to the bulk head as it is just enough room for heater matrix pipes, wirring etc.
As for the wiring bit there is no easy way just do your searches on nico and places like that so many handy guides around that helped me and with a bit of common sence and auto electrical knowledge thrown in you'll be there before you know it. Just do me a favour and when you are doing the wiring dont use any crimp terminals to join the looms solder all the way.
The wiring does sound alot more difficult than it actually is so just dig in mate thats what I did anyway:thumbs:
cheers mate, ill just have a look when it gets here at whats what, once the engine is mechanically fitted ill start looking into it :)
thanks for the help mate, the mont kit that im getting for my standard cross member moves the engine back so the stick is in the stock position, i have a few ideas on how to take up the rest of the gap but want to look at the car first before i mention anythig,
hows yours going by the way, had any problems since driving it,
What did you do about the cooling? have you fitted an electric fan?
What did you do about the cooling? have you fitted an electric fan?
good point, ill just be keeping my electric fan and CA rad for a bit, but it will only be going to work and back for the first few months.
also are you using a ca18det down pipe or an rb20 one as i want to buy a 3inch down pipe and wondered which one to get?
thanks
Ol'_200sx_thing
30-12-2007, 20:24
use the Rb one and mod it to fit the rest of the system :)
how much of a gap is there once the engine is fitted between the down pipe and exhaust and the what gap is there in the prop?
hows yours going by the way, had any problems since driving it,
No major problems touch wood!! runs really smooth very happy. its all in the build
What did you do about the cooling? have you fitted an electric fan?
Im using the standard skyline rad at the moment with a 12'' electric fan, but I really think an ally one with twin thermostatic fans would be a better option as it does get abit close to the mark sometimes. Something on the list to get when funds allow
also are you using a ca18det down pipe or an rb20 one as i want to buy a 3inch down pipe and wondered which one to get?
thanks
Im using a T3 so I just made the downpipe fit the exhaust, the turbo position is a fair bit higher than the CA's so its a make it fit when its in kind of thing, like most things are with engine conversions
HTH
Dal:thumbs:
also what did you do about the power steering as i hear you need to block of a part of it?
Ol'_200sx_thing
30-12-2007, 21:37
power steering just needs a little fiddling to fit, i used a mix and match of S13 and R33 parts on mine :)
As for the wiring bit there is no easy way just do your searches on nico and places like that so many handy guides around that helped me and with a bit of common sence and auto electrical knowledge thrown in you'll be there before you know it. *cough*
:D
was that a hint that you know how to do it???
just wondered how you solved the power steering?
what parts of the ca and rb did you use?
how did you sort out the pipes for the heating as it looks like the ca ones arent long enough to attach to the back of the engine?
i noticed you used something to block of the power steering have you any spare i could have?
thanks
was that a hint that you know how to do it???
Nah, just a joke between dal me me
just wondered how you solved the power steering?
what parts of the ca and rb did you use?
This was a very big pain in the **** for me, long story but I originally used most off the s13 lines just had to bend or extend in a few places, but I later replaced it with copper tubing and good fittings which is best as there is a hell off pressure and jubilee clips just wont be reliable. Now the pump gave me the most problem as I originally was using the RB pump which had two outlets I blocked the second one off and when I first got the engine running it popped the front seal behind the pulley and made a lovely mess.
So as I wanted to get it on the road as soon as I can I sourced a PS pump from breakers with single outlet paid £60 for it and its near on exactly the same as the CA one so I ended up making the CA pump fit with the bracket from the CA it is a temporary measure but works perfect
I think the pump from the R33 RB25 would be more suitable and hopefully use the correct mounting bracket something I need to look into in the new year just havent had time too busy enjoying it.
how did you sort out the pipes for the heating as it looks like the ca ones arent long enough to attach to the back of the engine?
thanks
I was lucky and got the RB ones with the engine and they fit straight on, Also they had some kind off electrical sender/sensor inline that plugged into the loom, dont ask me what it is I havent a clue need to trace this also.
While we are on the subject took it out this morning and my clutch is slipping:annoyed:
Anyone recommend a good one that will not break the bank
Cheers
Dal
so i could use the ca pump then?
need to sort out the heating pipes as i dont think my engine came with any :(
i bought a clutch from ebay cost me £139 plus postage but seems like a good deal
riskey buisness buying clutches from ebay imo, not seen a decent cheap one yet, they all seem to just slip after a little while
great project, love the lack of power steering earlier reminds me of my mates old 1.1 fiesta lol
well done

ahh man... I told you this day would come... its been fun while it lasted :)
Depends on what you want? Do you want another paddle? or go with what I got (RPS Max Street)
There is no point fitting LUK kits (£100) because you will be changing them every 3 months esp. with the torque you are throwing out.
Let me have a dig
RPS - same price as the S13 kit
RPS - same price as the S13 kit
I think that an RPS may be a bit overkill for his power. I brought one, because I dont like paddle clutches, and unfortunately, there doesnt seem to be another clutch on the market that adopts the feel that a normal clutch gives you when running around 300bhp
I think that an RPS may be a bit overkill for his power.
Now, yes, but futureproofing
I think that an RPS may be a bit overkill for his power.
Prosuming now are we:D
ooooo! Handbags a dawn? :D
Prosuming now are we:D
it depends on what you want to go with. A Paddle or Organic.
IMO, the RPS is a bit overkill for your current setup. Unless you are planning on rebuilding the engine with forgies, bigger turbo, custom map, etc.
But if you have budgeted £300 for the new clutch, go for it, as its a pretty nice clutch :)
Hi all,
This is a long time overdue but here we go
Right it all started back in April this year on a sunday night just chilling watching TV and I get a knock on the door from my neighbour to inform me this just happened
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/cars/070420082179.jpg
After alot of stressing swearing high phone bills etc it ended up being a CAT C which is very annoying as its only wing bumper and headlight cover and abit of paint to me thats a £300 fix at the most!! Not even a scratch structurally but Ive just swallowed it as I know I will never sell this car
So time to fix it came and Ive got abit carried away and have planned big changes for her. First major one is its going back to white:nod:
While its off the road I might aswell sort other things that I keep saying 'yeah Ill do that one day' So I have.........
First job I did was stripped interior out and removed all sound deadening and attacked the rust

Next job was to get the rear fenders and sideskirts bonded on I used something called sikaflex its awesome stuff and def recommend it they do it in black and white which is a bonus! I used 4 self tappers to hold the fenders on over night and removed them and filled them I also used duck tape to pull everything in nice a tight.

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/cars/020720082730.jpg
After it had gone of for a good 24 hours I used fibreglass filler and feed it into every gap and blending point to try to prevent as much cracking as possible, the last thing I want is water getting in
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/cars/030720082741.jpg
I also blended the inner original arch into the fibre glass one, I used expanding foam first then fibre glass and filler Im planning on putting fibreglass matting over this also to cut the risk of anything falling out:wack:

hows ur eyes still, mine were still playing up lol
Nice work DAL :)
I saw the fronts are SRB fenders (Charge Speed?), but couldn't find where you got the rear oversized fenders or what brand/make they are?
Matthew
I can still see little white dots in my eyes:wack:

:D
That really is looking brilliant mate, a really credit to your hard work. I reckon you should spray the plynth on the rear lights white too.
Seeing this really makes me miss being an SX owner.
Think the rear secton looks good in black, makes it stand out and be different rather than being white all over.
I was wondering about the rears as they seemed to need a lot of severe blending/smoothing near bottom just behind the door. Was there another reason for this? (As upto now had impression CS were good for parts).
Matthew
No the reason I done that was to blend the 180 sideskirts into front and rear wings thats all, the rears fitted perfect fronts were abit off but I can deal with that all came out above my expectations anyway:nod::D
:) Thanks DAL. Good to get some feedback on that.
BTW, does look very nice. Needs lowering lol ;)
Matthew
What paint work? All I can see is boxes with little red crosses in them... Damn work filters
Try sxoc.com rather than co.uk tas :)
Matthew
:) Needs lowering lol ;)
:rolleyes:I knew someone would say that! dont worry coilys are coming and a mess around with spacers on the rear it needs to sit perfect, dont worry Im not finished yet:D
He's waiting for me to die so he can strip my coilys.
Someone's pain is someone else's gain ;)
I think you should have kept the wheels silver though, as they look small due to the white paint being very bright and the wheel centre's are dark.
Matthew
Try sxoc.com rather than co.uk tas :)
Matthew
It doesnt matter which site I try. It still blocks them.
However, I did manage to have a quick look last night, and its come up quite well. You just need to clean your wheels and tyres, and make the rest of the car as clean as the new paint job
Hi all
Right quick update! shes almost complete:D Im aiming to get an MOT done on Thursday:nod:
Havent got many photos as its just the usual stuff! all interiors back in including soldering alarm in instead of some cowboys bullet connectors!!
Also got the gtr seats to fit perfect,
Not too far out but far enough
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/22072008057.jpg
Luckily I had a spare broken s13 subframe and cut the brackets of them like so
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/22072008058.jpg
bit of adjustment
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/22072008059.jpg
bit of weld both sides and matt black paint we have.......
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c243/driftingdal/22072008063.jpg
Only things major to do now or tomorrow I should say is re-underseal underneath as overspray is plentiful, and re-paint the wheels and clean her all up ready for some decent photos and an mot then home she comes!
NEXT!!:D:D
cheers for looking
