Set up this thread so Colwell, Jules and I can put up some info from our little day out.

Cracking day with Clowell and Jules. First of all the cars...

We were amazed at what we saw when we turned up...a Ferarri F40 in prefect condition; we didnt think it was going out on track but how wrong were we!

For Jules it was his first time out on track so took it nice and easy in his first session however he was the most luck bugger on the planet as he was passed by the F40 at full chatt!!

However his day was cut short by turbo gaskets going. Despite the combined might of 3 guys from the SXOC 2 snapped studs was a bit much for a track side repair.

Below are a few bits of video, with me out in colwells car and me with just a camera mount in.

<embed width="448" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://i56.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid56.photobucket.com/albums/g197/Tommy200sx_photos/MVI_0281.flv"></embed>

Took colwell out in mine as a passenger and waited for the F40 to catch up (didnt have to do too much as it was fast as fook). I had to run silencing all day to get under 100db (got to 99.8:wack: ) but took it off for the F40, then proceeded to not remember that I had just given the car an extra 80hp and a much more aggressive power curve and did a massive smoke inducing spin (720) in front of the F40 (just glad I didn’t hit it:nod: )
All in all a cracking day, I'll let the others add some extra photos.

Love that pic of mine and james' cars, good idea for the elevation ;)

Shame my car broke after the first session but hey, was pretty surreal looking in my mirrors and seeing a ferrari f40 behind me for a few corners, let him past in the end as I was taking it easy :D

couldnt believe after i came off and drove down the end of the pitlane to cool down, thought the car sounded funny and my heart sank when we opened the bonnet and colwell pointed out the gasket hanging out the turbo, 2 studs ****ed

I had booked 3 lessons with the instructor but he wasnt available for the first session, I was in session 3 which was novice (even with the f40!)then after that it was open pitlane. as I didnt have a working car tom took the first lesson then I chopped my other 2 in for a go in a lotus elise, will post more about that tomo, better go and be sociable so I can get some off the missus later :D

got a bit of sunburn too, was sweating like **** over dinner

and cheers to tom and james for the passenger rides, 2 quick sorted cars, both need passenger buckets and harnesses though!

If this makes you feel any better....After I snapped the exhauts hangers out on track and drove home, all mu turbo studs have gone :( not a big supprise given they had to support almost the whole exhaust weight on the drive back

As I was bored, unfortunatly my crap camera 1) has rubish quality 2) crap sound 3) only runs for 3 min. I didnt realise this so the first 2 min tends to be warm up laps.

I had a really, really good day  learnt loads about the car and how it handles and that when it does break tracktion not to panic too much as they can be controlled quite nicely.

Didnt quite kill the rear tyres even though i was trying quite hard but maybe they will do a stint up Pod soon.

Pitty about Jules's car soo soon in the day and Figjams but at least that was in the last session. Fingers crossed mine seems to have got through unscathed  but im sure when i look at it later ill find something wrong.....lol

Some of my pics from the day.

Good to see you all had a good time. I did a trackday there with motorsport events early in the year, was nice to watch the video remembering all the corners. Do you think you guys would go back there again?

Anyway it's only £89 for 3 hours open pit, you can make it £1 a lap easily

Is Abingdon Oxford way??

How bad was the airfield on the tyres, thats the main reason I don't like them, 3-4x more tyre wear than a circuit

The surface at Abingdon is excellent, pretty much track spec
I've done a couple of days there and tyre wear was no worse than the likes of Combe etc :)

I was thinking about doing a day at abingdon or possibly the brands day, but the problem for me with proper tracks is im not allways the most restrained or controlled driver, and am scared of armco and gravel pits on my car

Yes mate, just west of Oxford

Wear on tyres was not as bad as i expected, alot of it was kinda tarmac.

Saw the pictures from the weekend on their website and on closer inspection they arn't really all that.

Maybe we could one CD of all our cars so its like £7 each rather than £20. Idea???
