Hello all.

Pretty new to this 200SX milarky and used to servicing my old Mondeo with Halfrauds cheapo oil. I now need to do an oil change and am looking for some Castrol RS 10/60 or Mobil 1 M/Sport 15/50.

Any ideas in the Leicester/Derby area where I could get some? Graham Goode sell Mobil, but they're renowned for being pretty expensive. I didn't know if there was anyone who did it any cheaper. Am pretty close to Loughborough but work in Derby.

Thanks in advance for any help.
Kate :)

Hey man, I dunno about what the experts would say but I wouldn't be putting 10/60, seems awful extreme. Ask the oil dudes about a better gradient, check the Traders section and give Opie a ring. They deliver, they don't cost the earth and I guarantee you'll get something perfectly suited to your needs.

The Mobil will be ok and I am pretty sure Halfords sell it

a 60 grade is a little too thick though, stick to a 40 or 50

Strange, I got the grade info off this (http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=94921) thread, so I thought they were OK oils.

Thanks for the advice though - Will have a look on the traders forum and give that guy a call. Might try another Halfrauds too. They did have Mobil 1, but not in the right grade.

Thanks again :)

 - hi Kate, perhaps you could try and get along to one of our local meets (next one is a week on Sunday).

Not really sure where is best to get oil locally as I tend to source mine through work. If you want mail / online order there is Opie Oils in the traders section and carriage is included for orders over £35, I believe. Halfrauds can actually be pretty reasonable but you need to get a trade card - I can't remember the criteria, so you'll need to ask .

Trade card criteria are that you either work in the motor trade, or you do lots of work on your own and friends cars. It's dead simple, just say you do all your own work :)

Not quite, you need to work for a garage or be a trained mechanic. They ask (or should) for a payslip or qualification proof

I have one though :D

BTW that oil thread is VERY old and could do with updating

nissan say 10w30 but then changed the grade to 10w40, mines running on 10w40 Havoline and seems to love it! (not a geek on oil grades, just work at the right place lol)

No you don't. I've worked for Halfords part time for 6 years :wack:

Only if you say you are a trained mechanic or working for a garage.

.

Then obviously you havent read the full conditions on the trade card

(I have them in front of me ;) )

'I work on my mates cars' isnt part of the criteria for getting one

Sigh

Walk into your nearest Halfords. Say you work on your cars loads and loads and you've been told you can get a trade card.

Then HONESTLY sit here and say you were refused. I'd bet my SX on you getting one.

It's in the stores interests to get as many out as possible, every single store gives them out to people who do their own work.

I appreciate it's not on the T+C, but that doesn't mean it isn't the way.

I'm not convinced that'd work. For starters, I'm a girl and I don't have dirt ingrained into my fingertips. I can do a basic service and know my way around an engine. However, if they started asking me detailed stuff to test me, I'd be stuck. Might get the boyf to have a go. He spends a lot of time rolling around under various cars of his :)

Well, I've worked at Scarborough, Nottingham, Arnold, Bletchley MK, Rugby, Sheffield Road Depot and Doncaster and I've never seen someone refuse one. Heh. You win some you lose some it would seem.

lostkat, if you need a hand with one, just shout.

Oh and just to include the official line from Halfords ;)

Currently the qualifying criteria needed to obtain a card from any one of our stores is either: a pay slip from a recognised garage, City & Guilds or NVQ motor trade qualification or Collage enrolment certificate (on a motor trade course) If any of your existing Nissan members can provide the relevant documentation they may obtain a trade card in store today, in all instances proof of signature must also be provided.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require anything further

So I guess anyone giving them out like sweeties are breaking company policy and liable for disiplinary action :wack:

Not at all mate. You're actively encouraged to get as many cards out to as many people who could benefit from it, without "giving them out like sweeties". There are plenty of people out there running their own hobby businesses etc, or who are fully capable with a car but have no piece of paper to back it up.

All this detracts from the oil post though, don't you think.

Not really, I believe you told the thread originator to go to Halfords and get a trade card and i am just pointing out its not that easy  as myself and jon have proved

BTW lostkat Halfords are doing Buy 1 get 1 free at the moment so go and get some works out cheaper than using a trade card anyway

Actually I suggested that a trade card may save you some money but that I wasn't sure of the criteria :D. It was Piman that suggested "It's dead simple, just say you do all your own work".

LOL, if we're all in nit picking mode then I didn't actually say "Go and get one" Mark. As Adrian said, I just suggested it wasn't as complex / strict as you think. But of course, what would I know. I mean, it's only my job. As said, you win some, you lose some.
