I was reading another forum and this chap reckoned that your insurance would be invalid if you had an accident and they dicovered you had a de-cat pipe (instead of a CAT). Is this true?

"Of course - you could keep the original system and replace it every year for the MOT - BUT if you happened to have an accident in between times - your insurance would be invalid because your car is "unroadworthy". That's nothing to do with undeclared modifications - purely the fact your car doesn't comply with current regs. It's possible that IF your car meets the emmissions standards without the cat your "friendly" MOT tester may turn a blind eye. There are several people who manufacture "performance" cats. "
