s13 stage 2 vs stage 3 chip

Hi Jez,

is there a visual difference between your stage 2 and 3 chips (except for the sticker)? I got a 2nd hand stage 3 chip and hoped it would be one of yours, but it doesn't have one of your stickers on and it's a bit bigger than the stage 2 one (doesn't fit into the socket) :(

ok got it to fit into the socket (had to pull the pins in as they were too wide), not when turn the key, there's a popping sound coming from somewhere around the engine while the pump is priming :eek:

I have a Z32 AFM connected (started the car with the stage 2 chip but couldn't idle), but i'm yet to fit the 444cc injectors. Was hoping the car would start so i can pull out the fuel pump fuse and let it run dry, then replace the injectors.

EDIT: well the popping sound is the injectors opening and closing, don't know if it's safe to start the car

I'm not sure whats wrong - sounds like the chip isn't appropriate. I can't help any further as it probably isn't one of my products.

that's what i was afraid of, an ebay chip or something strange since i'd not even close to yout stage 2 chip which worked more or less with the Z32 AFM.

would it be okay to run the car for a couple of miles with the standard injectors on a stage 3 setup (just a test drive below boost before i put in the 444s)?
Or is the stage 3 chip so specific it requires the 444cc injectors even for idling? :)
