is the Xbox chipable?

There isnt a definitive answer to that first question, everyone will always prefer one or the other, best option, get both :D

There was supposed to be a chip available for Xbox but since I never bought one I havent kept up to date.

The xbox can be fiddled with in all sorts of ways.

IMO one of the best mods is to fit a bigger hard disk and then copy the games onto the hard disk - quicker loading / access, winner all round ;)

Can't really see XBox lasting given the current level of competition in this sector...

Given the global sales of the consoles the XBox had already lost before it even started:(

Only other downpoint I can see with the XBox is that there just aren't that many games available for it...( YET;) )

However I do love the idea of being able to copy all your games to the hard drive:D

However would personally like to see the XBox do well as its only stiff competition that keeps the games industry on its toes and in the end the only real winners will be us:D:D:D:D:D:D

Roll on XBox2 and PS3:D:D:D:D

Oh and forgot to mention you can't get Vice City for the XBox;););)

I have a PS2, but I'd trade it in for an XBox, as the graphical capabilities of the XBox appear to be superior. Plus you can muck around with them, and make them play divx movies etc.

Got both and i never use the xbox... only because GT3 and Vice City are only out on the PS2.

PS2 has a better selection of games and going by the way the PS1 went, they'll get much better the longer the PS2 is out.

oh... and the controller for the PS2 is decent.. the Xbox controller is horrid (IMO)

Thats a good point marty, remember how games looked at the beginning with PS1, and compare them to Gran Turismo 2, or Colin McRae 2.

Still.... I don't suppose you want to swap? ;)

I had both, But the Xbox was far superior so I sold the Ps2.

All of the Xbox games are so much smoother.

I'm gonna stick with Sony for now ....

The Xbox is very good, but, basically just a fast PC in a rather oversized box. Every time there is a step up in PC games it requires faster processors, more memory and better video cards. There isn't much attention paid to developing the software to take full advantage of the original box.

I'm guessing the developers for the Xbox have come over from PC Game development. I can see the Xbox software going the same way PC game software does. The games will stay at the same level until the next generation of hardware comes out.

At least with Sony there's a good track record there for getting the very best from their existing hardware rather than expecting the consumer to go out and upgrade every few years. The PS1 was THE console to have for about 7 years. Within a year of so the Xbox hype will have died down and Sony developers will be getting into their stride.

The Playstation will regain it's crown. :D

I was going to disagree with you marty, but now I think you've hit the nail on the head - the XBox is as you say a little PC - it is not going to cost MS billions in research to release the next XBox in a couple of years - just grab whatever are the latest processors and memory off the shelf and assemble - TADA! - XBox 2! For Sony, it will be a different matter...

Having said that, in my experience, Microsoft hardware is second to none in terms of quality, if you are prepared for the price...

We got both! :p

It's worth getting the PS2 for Vice City alone. You can't fail to love and get hooked on it!

Simililililiarary (?), Halo's graphics beat the PS2 hands-down in my opinion and its worth getting one just for this game.

In conclusion, buy both. Amen.

The PS3 has been under development for a long time now. It will use a main processor called the cell, made by IBM. Basically its a multi core porcessor, so in one ceramic package you get your processor, GFX and other stuff. The processor bit is very similar to a PPC 970, which at 1.8 Ghz is only beaten by the Power4 in raw performance (it pisses all over P4 3Ghz+ by several orders).
The beauty of these PPC based chips isn't their power, its their power consumption, which is generally very low. i.e. a P4 3.06 Ghz generates 74 Watts of heat, while a PPC 970 at 1.8 GHz wil generate around 10 watts.
The upside is smaller and more stable console!
Microsoft can make some XBox2, but to be more powerful than the PS3 will most likely be, it will have to be made about 2 years later!

i have both, from these guys. there servise is amazing! orderd my xbox at 9:30am and was playing it the next day by 8:30am, not bad.
the x-box is so much better IMO, plus if you get one from these guys it has a snes, megadrive, and 1500 arcade games built in the harddrive! anyone like mairo cart? street fighter 2? ect. plus they gave me tony hawk 4 and Sega gt for free. once you have got one go to these guys for your games http://www.pir8forums.com/

£5 a game!!! if you only get 1, or lots cheaper if you buy a few, they come with the same green x-box cases, glossy covers, u really would have a job to tell its a copy.
and as for no games on the x-box? are u mad? i have 35 games and i never no what to play as they are all so dam good.

I have a Dreamcast...oh dear (I haven't used it in years)

I think all consoles are OK when you have a load of mates back forom the pub to beat each other up at Tekken or whatever but a bit sad if (like me) you spend thousands of hours masterminding a military campagne with wizards and goblins.

That said a tricked up PC should give any of them a right shoeing.

eeh...hark at me, shouting my mouth of like some sort of expert...I'd like to get one of those interwebs of my own to keep in a box.

Plus it doesn't need chipping. Not that I know anything at all about such awful practices.

In my experience their service is excellent, I had a fault on mine, courier picked it up and it came back next day all sorted.

Do it man!!!
