Grrrrrr.

Okay so i let it get a bit out of hand till it reached 1.1GB, so i deleted loads of stuff and it's still 1.1GB. I emptied the deleted items folder.

I've ran scanpst on it to try and reduces it, and if I get the properties of the mailbox it tells me it's 89Mb so, why the fooking hell is the outlook.pst file still 1.1GB?

Anyone know how to get this dumb ass thing to sort it out?

Gonna try recreating the outlook.pst file and importing the mail and contacts from it, but how crap is that?

recreating a new pst file and importing it all worked, sort of.

1.1gb shouldnt be a problem mate, 1.8gb is the limit for Outlook.

Odd, maybe the drive has some bad sectors?

Nope it's not that, I made a copy of it to check.
scanpst would have picked up dodgy sectors.

Basically the reason for trimming it down is because on XP Pro using Outlook XP it kept dying with an out of resources message (memory). It doesn't do this in Win2k/Office 2k.

There were 100,000+ messages though. Might have been an indexing problem.

Anyway, it's all kinda sorted now, apart from when I imported the mail it lost track of when it last popped mail off so I've just started to download it all again, 20,000 messages. FFS.

So far it's done from 30th Aug to the 9th Sept and there's 940 messages. grrrrrrrrr.
