So, who is sad enough to have a wireless LAN @ home?

Reason I ask is cos i get broadband tomorrow and wanna share it a bit so looking at getting something like this...
http://web6.scan.co.uk/Products/Info.asp?WPID=33990

So I can use my Ipaq at home & have two machines, one with a static IP (VPN'd through work :)) and another for naughty stuff ;)using the ISP's IP address.

Also me missus is doing some more Novell exams so she's gonna be building some servers, and I'm gonna borrow a Cisco 2500 from work to do my CCNA so might get a full scale LAN on the go LOL.

Soooooo, question is are these things any good, and does anyone have any recommendations of which to buy?
I really would like to spend about £100 on the Wireless Router/Switch then get some cheapy wireless PCI or USB adaptors if necessary.

I deffo want a router/switch, not just an access point.

I've seen a few in just the few minutes that I've been looking on the web, so thought I'd ask if any of you lot have got a gadget you can comment on etc.

Cheers,
Jezz.

Tell him to look, I might be on MSN later, will ask him.
Have looked through the CPC cattylog but there's not much in it.

I may be wrong but I think Andy uses Belkin equipment (?). It works very well indeed. Computer upstairs, laptop downstairs. Cable connection shared via the wireless LAN, worked good - stuy was on it too and downloaded a load of crap on andy's laptop - silly boy.

Yeah, I saw the belkin thing in the catalog, might do a bit of research, it's quite pricey though £155+VAT.

Cheers. :)

in fact I'll ask him now. :)

Try DABS.COM for Belkin stuff:-

Wireless cable/ DSL gateway router £128
USB Wireless adapter £60
Wireless notebook card £54

I've just set up a home wireless network with the adapter, notebook card and the wireless access point (not conected to a wired network), they seem to work fine.

try www.adslguide.org.uk

by far the best place for non biased opinions on all things ADSL - great discussion forum too.

I weighed up wireless but read too many real world reviews that basically said if you haven't got any walls in your house then it's great. Plumped for an Alcatel 510v4 router/modem. Connected it up last night and I was flying.

It's a NAT router with UPnP, and the only domesic router available (I think) with DHCP Spoofing (so you can get Netmeeting video to work etc). Cost £105+VAT and included 2 microfilters. I'm gonna run some cat 5 under my floorboards to link up other rooms in my house.

Cheers both. :)

I need wireless for my PDA, and for borrowed laptop potential.

I have looked at dabs, that's where i was looking when i decided i'd just ask you lot cos there were loads.

I got the Belkin thing today, plugged it in, pissed around with it for a few mins and it works just fine & dandy. :)

Just need to get PPPoE & PPTP to work on my PDA and the world is mine. Well 'll be able to log into my VPN @ work.
