Our friend and fellow SXOC member Fernando Gerts is being cremated today at 1.30pm, In honour of his memory the forums will be closed untill 6.30pm, if you wish to pay your respects or post stories about the good times we were lucky enough to have shared with him please do so below, this topic will remain open for one week, it will then be closed and kept as a permanent tribute to a much missed and loved friend.

I met Fernando for the first time at JAE this year and he really was the life and soul (although you couldn't tear him away for the car-B-Q). He was a real great laugh, we got chatting from the Friday night we arrived to the Sunday morning when we left. He was the first to do the yard of Ale contest and never stopped smiling.

I love it when you meet those people who instantly brighten your day............ Fernando was certainly one of those people and even though I only met him that weekend, i feel robbed!

He died too soon and all I can do is pray for his friends and family.......... so thats what i'll do.

Condolences to the family & although i could not make the funeral it makes me proud to be part of a club that cares enough that some of the senior members of the club made the journey on our behalf.

I don't think i've ever been more moved by such a simple gesture.

the sound of 40 cars all saluting a great guy as he passed them for the last time.

I have tears in my eyes again just from thinking about it, it could sound cliche to some, but as far as i'm concerned, it was the PERFECT send off and from what his family were saying, they were also very moved by it.

so with tears in my eyes, but a smile on my face (because that's what Fernando would want) I thankyou Fernando, for being an inspiration, a friend, a legend and most of all for being yourself.

I had the honour to say goodbye to you properly yesterday, but the true honour was having known you and that's something i'll keep in my heart forever.

here's wishing you eternal peace and happiness, you deserve nothing less.

Thank you very much Bassx, but also a massive thanks to yourself, nismo joe, lindi, 200SX_Freak, Fernandos parents, all the other SXOC.nl members and everyone else for being so hospitable (sorry if that's spelt wrong) and looking after us, ferrying us around in various 200's and translating things for us so we could all laugh along with the jokes and stories that were told about him :notworthy :clap:

I say, it was an honour and a great pleasure to be able to have been there to see our friend for the last time and give a great send off. I won't lie, when we pulled off the motorway and everyone started revving their engines on the slip road, i felt like I was going to cry, when we pulled into the road outside and the street was lined with 200's all revving their engines, some doing burnouts, I lost it and just cried my heart out, just thinking about it now again has brought back the tears again :cry: It was beautiful and the greatest send off I've ever seen, I'm sure the big guy was looking down with that great smile on his face loving it.

The weather was also beautiful, not a cloud in the sky, as Stidi said "He must have pulled a few strings with the man upstairs for weather like this"

Fernando, although I only met you the few times, you were a great friend and always smiling :) it was an honour and a pleasure to have known you and to have the great times we had at JAE.

I'll repeat what I said when I saw you "Adios Amigo, you'll be missed more than you can ever know, sleep sideways and keep a set of tyres aside for me when I come to meet you again"

It's rare that someone comes along who makes such an impact on people in a short space of time, you couldn't help but like the big guy as soon as you met him, always smiling, happy and friendly.

I am honoured that I was able to attend his funeral along with Matty, stidi and Algie to say goodbye to him on behalf of all of us here that knew him. The send off he was given by his Family and friends from SXOC.NL was truly amazing and I'm sure he would have been looking down and smiling.

I was humbled by the hospitality extended to us by Fernando's family and friends and would like to thank Joey, Lindi, William, Ginger, Rick, Bianca, JJ, Bas and all the other guys who made us welcome and made it possible for us to say goodbye.

Rest in peace my Friend, you will live on in our hearts

I never actually met Fernando but I remember seeing him beaming at JAE and commented to my girlfriend that he came all the way from the NL. All I remember of him was his mammoth size and mammoth laugh! And a metal head to boot! Rock out with Dimebag for me dude!
