Hiya folks,

I just wondered if there were any marshalls here in the :sxoc: .

Basically, I enjoy my days out at the races and marshalling looks like a good compromise between seeing some track action up close and being involved in the sport in some way.
To race would be fantastic but I haven't got the kind of money to do it and marshalling is a very important part of the sport.
Does anybody have any good advice in general? About how to get started or what to expect?
And what is expected of say, me?
I live 10 mins from Oulton Park and at the last Touring Car meet they had BMMC marquees up. I'm off to Donington on Sunday, so i'll keep my eye out there too and have a word this time.

All suggestions/advice appreciated. Then I can see if it's something I think I can do.

TIA ...

i used to be a marshall at lydd, (cart track). unless supermoto was on or drifting (both rarely), it was the most boring job i had.

BUT, marshalling at a bigger track is MUCH more fun, you stand there with a few more race enthusiasts.

(my job was basically to stay awake, very hard if you are in a lay down position with no crashes happening all the time!:D )

moral of story:

DO NOT marshall at a cart track.

DO marshall at a larger track:D

Thanks for the encouragement Polo.

Apparently at Oulton during the last round of the BTCC, they had about 176 enquiries so lets hope something comes of them. Should be something similar at Dony tomorrow.

I'll be having a word so I'll let people know how I get on.

If it happens, I'll marshall in an SXOC cap!!

Lydd is a great kart(Kart with a K and not with a C) track. Kart Marshalling is easy if you don't have clark (call penalties) but clarking means you have to be awake and thinking

Never done any track marshalling but I am a qualified MSA marshall and used to do the WRC rally championship every year in Wales:nod:

You need to get a license and keep it up to date every year by attending safety courses etc:thumbs:

Ta Wookie, I had a word at Donington and gained a bit more info, put my name down to get some more details. They then get in touch and arrange "taster" days and I could then go from there.

Well folks, my foray into Marshaldom starts tomorrow.
I've got a trial/taster day at Oulton. There's going to be about 10+ of us rookies that will be be shown around and inducted into the orange-side. :D
I'm looking forward to it. At the very least it'll give me more of an appreciation for what they do.
