I reported my mods to Adrian Flux today, & without the benefit of a RR run I gave them an estimated 15 to 20 BHP increase. The woman then told me it would be an additional 15 to 20% on my premium! Is this mormal?

I double checked her & explained that I just said "15 to 20 BHP" not "15 to 20% power increase", but she just said yep, for every 1 BHP I should add 1% on the premium. I can't help but get the feeling that she was just making it up as she rattled along...

so what about peeps here running 300BHP? By her reckoning if I disclosed 300 BHP she would want a 100% additional charge on my premium.

Can any1 confirm whether this is B.S or whether this is how it works?

I've had a similar thing with Adrian Flux. They ask you all the mods and I rattled them off very quickly - faster than they could type / write. They then asked the bhp increase. I said I dont know. They then said about 250bhp to which I replied, I really dont know. And they left it at that.

They sent me a modifications form - I listed everything, and I mean everything and send it to them special delivery. I photocopied it and have proof of delivery - the special delivery service is tracked...

I just hope they dont find a way out of it if I have an accident.

also, on one of my insurance certificates it had the price the actual insurance cost - they'd tried to block it out with a permanent marker but it was still legible. They mark-up was really quite big - can't remember exactly... grrr...

They did me the best quote I've had and I declared everything this time too.

If you guys aren't already (cos I'm too busy to look it up), you really should join the sxoc. 2 Insurance companies to choose from and another still sorting itself out!

From peoples experience, have these been better than other insurance companies, on the whole?

I'm going to go through the SXOC-FLUX deal on my new 200sx as it's not modified.

However when I had my older S13 and tried to insure it with Flux, they asked if the 'modified suspension' meant the car was lowered. I said yes, it's a 30mm drop.

And then they told me instantly they would not insure a nissan 200sx (s13) with lowered suspension.

I had not even been asked my age at this point.

Flux gave me an excellent quote this year, but Greenlight still beat it by over a £100 and that's with ALL the mods you see on my rides page declared!

Are you looking into getting something sorted with HIC too? a lot of ppl, including me, have found them pretty good.

And what happened in the end with the "dorset insurance" scheme? Was it dorset? (memory problem)

SXOC member 222;) Wasn't a member last time the policy needed renewing.

So Flux doesnt do lowered suspension:( I told 'em that I was putting uprated suspension on it when I spoke to them the other week, they just said fine, put it on the mod list u send in (& that it wouldn't incur any extra charge by itself)... Presumably if I told em it lowered the car they wouldnt insure me? But if I put down the make of the suspension on the form I'm covered right? Didn't buy it to lower the car anyway, just to improve handling...

Trying to get HIC on board mate and they were keen but I've not heard from them and I've spoken to them several times.

Dorset are doing us both Car & home insurance deals with Norwich Union but after several people rang them and were told the scheme wasn't ready yet, I mailed and asked them to let me know when it is. Haven't heard from them yet and it's been a while. Doesn't really give me a good impression of them tbh and I doubt I'd insure with them regardless of costs, as they don't seem on the ball. That's my take on it anyway. Compare that to Greenlight (less than a week of emails and phone calls) and Flux (a couple of weeks).

Trouble with Flux is that they have so many different scheme's and sub depts that all use different underwriters that all have a different take on things, they can't always accomodate certain mods, or any mods come to that.

Again, they were fine with my mods, inc the pistons and F Con ECU, oh... and the 30mm drop too:)

under 30 in Australia with a modified 200 or pretty much any other jap import and there is only one insurance company who will touch you. They have a no limit policy on mods (ie you can do what you want as long as it's legal and you can afford to pay the premium which not unreasonably increases with modifications), but they also have a very obvious monopoly on the market.

And they know this.

And they have just essentially doubled their premiums.

In absolute dollar costs this is from $1400 to $2500!

yay. not.

Which is still less than what I'm going to pay this year and a whole lot less than what I paid last year. Try $5092.00:eek:

yeah, but Dan_BlitzedS14, everything in the UK seems to be about 3x the price of stuff here (except, now that I think about it, the price of your 200's for which I paid $26000 for 2000 s14a but I digress) the example I was going to give was those turbo warning stickers for which I paid close to $100AUD for 5!!! Here they would be about 1/3 of that if someone had made them. Most other things you guys talk about are about the same price here but in $ (eg genuine light globe - $51, eg boost guage $100 - 200 etc) I have always assumed that you get paid what we do, but in pounds. I really hope I'm right for your sakes, otherwise your insurance is outrageous - even more so than here!

I am, however, still astounded by the fact that some of your insurance premiums approach even half, sometimes more than half, of the cost of your cars:eek:

PS sorry about the essay, its late here and i'm too tired to make it more concise

blah blah ablh

going to sleep now:)

I'm sorting out emmigration to Perth in next few months, as quite frankly UK sucks :D ... My 99 S14a cost me $6,076.21 to insure, and that was the cheapest quote i could find :(

Did a quote on a S15 in Perth, and they wanted about $600 ... That's £200 for us whinging poms :)

GOODBYE BRITAIN!

smart arse.:) What about if you put mods on? And how old are you? And if you've got mods and you're under thirty, PLEASE let me know which company this is with. My friends and I would all be VEERY appreciative

I don't know whether to feel good or to feel sorry for you guys:confused: :)

You'll love Perth by the way... Warm weather, beautiful beaches, even more beautiful bikini's... mmmm :D I went for a three week holiday and can honestly say that I would be quite happy to live there. I think you'll find it a bit (LOT) smaller than London and probably every other city in the UK though...

Cheers. :)

I'm 22 and didn't have any mods :)

The place i got the insurance quote was the section that runs off http://www.carsales.com.au/ ... Some nice looking motors there :)

Chris_thedr

man those guys quoted me $1400 for 2000 model s14a and told me no mods apart from wheels and noone under 25 to drive it.. grrr

And now when I go to that site to get a quote like you I can't even FIND a 200sx under nissan or nissan special vehicles (which by the way I have never heard of)

How did you do this? I am interested because to insure a turbo under 22yo for that price is fantastic and I am hanging to get a quote!

SteveDunn

Hmmm that's strange, i did it a few weeks ago, but as you say they dont have the 200 there anymore??

Just done a quote on a Honda Prelude, and they wanted $650 odd. That was with the Perth postcode 6817 (random one i found).

:(

Edit - Perhaps its doing it to tempt me over there, then when i get there slap some massive bill on me :)

Chris_thedr
11-02-2003, 23:39
prelude isn't turbo though

Maybe they are trying to tempt you, beware... we are all paying about $2400 now with Just Car Insurance. Unlimited mods:D
