View Full Version : Lotus Elan (early '90s ones) - much cop or what?
The other day I was in the shopper and was knobbed about by some berk (on the phone:rolleyes: ) in his Elan.
When I find him and I'm driving a proper car how much of a thrashing will I dish out (either standard S13 or 'a friend's' circa 220bhp one)?
I know they are 0-60 in 6.9 but are they any good after that?
LOL, I reckon you've posted in the wrong forum again Ripper :D
Turbo chrged Isuzu engine in these fellas I think. Fwd tho m8 :(
I'm having a real no-brainer today!

Isuzu 1.6 16v Turbo engine in them with 160BHP standard (if its the Turbo one)
They were called the best handling FD car in the world when they were released
this is from parkers but obvously not a bible but give su an idea
Performance & Consumption Cyl / CC BHP MPH 0-60 MPG
Lotus 1.6________________ 4/1588 130 122 7.6 32
Lotus 1.6 S2 Turbo_________4/1588 155 138 6.5 31.2
Lotus 1.6 SE Turbo_________4/1588 165 137 6.7 31.6
That's ok, then.
Should wipe the floor with him above about 120 (will just p!ss him off until then;) ).
:D :D :D
Scrabble.:D
I shouldn't think it poses any threat at all. Chap a couple of doors down from me bought a turbo one a couple of months ago and rashly challenged me to a race (on private roads of course ;) )
However since the challenge was made he always seems to be fixing some problem or other. First time he took it for a blast the turbo let go, then the transmission fcuked up and now the whole of the rear body seems like it wants to come adrift at anything over 30mph. This was a one owner, genuine 15000 miles FLSH jobbie too.
Load of crap if you ask me :D
A sorted one (i.e. one that stays together) will waste a 200sx through the twisties!

Every Elan I've ever come accross (especially the one that shed it's entire rear bodywork ahead of me at 70 on the M6 a few years ago) has had nothing but serious problem after serious problem. So what are the chances of finding a sorted one that will waste a 200???????????
You know what Lotus stands for?

I hope your being sarcastic! A guy I know at work has the S2 elise. It leaks really badly when it rains. Bits of the undertray (bolts etc...) and some of the rear light clusters fell off!!!! just through vibration, and he is constantly having to take it back to get something repaired on it! For the money he paid I'd rather have the 200.
Plus it really annoy's him when I destroy him from about 40mph+ :D:D
Yeah but I wanna play the round corners game, anything can do fast in a straight line!
