I havent seen any way around these yet. My Norton Firewall seems to stop most of them though.

If you're running Win2000/XP then do the following:

Start - Run - services.msc

This will pop up a small windows explorer type box with a big list of stuff on the right.

Search down the list until you find the Messenger service.

Double click on it.

Make sure that it is set to Disabled, and that it is Stopped.

This should cure any probs :)

Only problem with that is If I disble the messanger service then I cant annoy everyone else on this network with popup messages. Any idea what port the messanger service uses so I can block it? on the internet gateway interface only?

I had a thing on my system a while ago. It was called Datemanager or something, written by gator software. It was the source of loads of pop ups. It was in the program files\common files directory. I just deleted the dirs. The .exes were called gmt.exe and precisiontime.exe or something like that.

Jez that GMT.exe thingy is the cause of most of the popup. This one is basically to anyone who has installed DivX on there PC. When you install DivX, it also installs gmt.exe and other apps. If you unstall DivX it dosn't uninstall these... bummer

Just search for the directory and delete the folder!

Si :)

Or you download the "doctored" version of DivX or disallow the prog to access the outside world via your firewall :)
