Basically, I work as a CCTV engineer for quite a large company, and was real good mates with my old boss, but he left 18 months ago to another company. The company he works for provide a van for private use (good tax) and slightly better pay, and the systems are more advanced.

I have been fighting to get a van over a car for ages now, and they have now provided one, but before I could get it, I was banned from driving for 2 months, in which time I was treated like ****. I get my lisence back in 9 days, and I have already been told that I will be collecting this van when I go back, and I will get the annual pay rise also. Thing, is, before I lost my lisence, the work was boring, and I was pissed off and almost ready to leave, but there was nowhere to go.

Today, my old boss knocked on my door, telling me that the company he is working for is looking for 2 engineers to start soon, and I'm in with a good chance if I wanted it. The pay is only 20p an hour more at the moment, but the overtime and on call rates are better, plus they provide a brand new merc vito van.

I have been with my company now for over 5 years, and I dunno what to do. I could go for an interview, end up with the job, and they would get real pissed at the fact that they kept me on, all beit at a crappy rate of pay, and still went and got me a van. It would bugger them up big time.

Or I could not bother, and end up getting bored again after 2 months, if it is the same as it was when I lost my lisence.

I'd deffo go for the job, it doesn't matter what your current company think.

Get the merc van :D

Go for it mate,

It seems you respect them enough not to want to piss them off, but if you're bored, you're just gonna stagnate, go for the new one :)

No pension anyway, holidays the same.

I've never been in this position before, it's the worry of leaving a secure job behind to work for a smaller company, bit wierd, can't decide

Vince,

If you are going to regret not giving this new job a go, and always wonder what if. Then you got to go for it.:)

I would say go for the new job, but bend over backwards to be nice to your old company to repay them for keeping you on e.g be as flexible as poss. aboutwhen you leave, maybe to some overtime for free before you leave to pay them back to some extent and so you dont burn your bridges if the smaller company fails... also talk to them, make them see that it's what you need to do..???

Threatening to leave may cause them to make you a better offer. Although you can generally get away with this tactic only once.

Digital HD/DVD recording, and IP networking is really taking off now. Smaller commercial sites still go for the old Time Lapse VCR's.

I'm gonna try and sort out an interview, everyone has talked me into it :)
