No it's a V6......minus one cylinder:D Maybe clever use of balancer shafts and the like are employed. Had a spin in a mates V5 Bora. 170 BHP, nice warble, not bad. The only thing that puts me off is the VW groups parts sharing with engines and stuff. For example, down the pub- yeah mate, VR6 out there's mine......what? Oh yeah, that is the same engine you can get in the Sharan people carrier:(
WTF. Is this just me or does part sharing like this take the shine off a nice motor? Like the Puma I had that was basically a Fiesta in a fancy outfit. Or a TT with the 1.8 turbo engine that you can get in Golfs, Boras, Passats, Sharans etc.
Sorry, really sad car rant over:D
Its a very narrow V, like the VR6 lump (i know its a V6) and only has the one cylinder head. When you look at the block the cylinders are offset to each other like a zig zag effect.
If you want to think about complex engine configs, how about the W8 they use in the Passat :D
How about the W16 in the Bugatti Veyron ? What a smooth engine that baby is :D
