View Full Version : Interior Bulbs/LED's??
Hey guys,
Looking at changing all my interior bulbs to blue.
This includes:
Dash bulbs
Heater controls
Centre Console
Cigarette Lighter
Front Fog switch
and any others that are there :)
Now I've just read a thread done by Welsh Dan, on the LED's he used for the main centre console switches. What I'd like to ask is if these are applicable for the heater controls also (before I take them apart)
Now for the dash, what LED's to use (Size?Type?) and what about the clock display? Is that a 286? Or am I looking at the wrong thing here?
Saw P4ULY's thread on his red dash, but is it better to get super bright or normal's? I presume superbright?
What are the better LED's to get, as on the maplin website there is a choice between
Diffuse covered bulbs
or
Clear Blue bulbs.
Or should I be getting them from somewhere else?
Side question, will the needle be the same orangey/red? (I think its orangy/red? Or white  )
S14/a dash = 3 x 501 bulbs & 1 x 286 (for the clock)
Ultraleds do everything you need - get 6LED bulbs for backlighting the dials (6small LEDs in 1 bulb). You might need to square off the end with some sand paper, or a blob of glue will help diffuse the light.

Search for U5016BW on www.ultraleds.com
Amnesia,
Cheers for the info :) I'll have a look now :) I was concerned about pulling the dash apart to 'check'
Cheers

its easy mate  about 8 screws to undo, and it will just pull out.
i used a blob of glue on mine  but its hard to get a good spread.

Right matey forget UltraLEDs they are pretty expensive use this guy:
http://stores.ebay.com/warden-jp2002
His are quality, arrive in about a week and are very cheap... For the dash i reccomend these ones:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2pcs-168-194-1W-High-Power-LED-Xenon-White-Wedge-Bulb_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33713QQihZ010QQite mZ200117728572QQtcZphoto
Those are the 1w ones that also come in amber, red and blue. They also give the best coverage of all the bulbs without bright or dark patches. I do need to buy some more though as a couple have died (They flicker) but that may be why they have redesigned them for 2007.
If you look through his store he also does most of the others you need too.

I'm a bit sceptical about buying from abroad really...what about tax etc?
Are these any good then, because some of the other guys were saying to use the ultrabright wide angle ones etc.
*side note, without going HID (yet) Whats the best (cheapest/best) H1's and where can I get them (my lights are ruuuubbish :(
Cheers
Flik
you'd be very unluky to pay tax on them  there only 3 quid each.

ZX,
Are these 'redesigned' ones going to be a straight fit (slot straight in?)

AS far as i am aware yes... Looks like they have just fitted a heatsink round the LED cluster to dissapate heat and possibly last longer. They should be fine...
Cheers for the advice
Think I'll go order meself some :D

So these are direct replacements for the original bulbs? No wiring or anything needed? If so im going to replace every interior bulb with these! :D

Yeah - got them through pretty fast. Very good quality. The only thing I notice is that the blue light doesn't light up the red needles or the red bit on the rev range. Ill take some photos and post them up in a bit

Might be why it doesnt get through to the needles then, had the same problem on my MR2 with overlays. Still looks good though.
