Why the hell should he be sorry for trying to protect himself and his home. And how the hell can the other guy who broke in sue for damages. What the hell is going on in this country?

Defend your property from people who have no business there and who intend to steal from you = 5 years in prison.

Get shot whilst attempting to thieve from someone else = sue them for lost earnings and get legal aid to pay all expenses for you.

FFS what's wrong with this country. LOST EARNINGS!!!!!!!! The little w@nker's never done a days legal work in his life and now we're footing the bill for his legal expenses through our taxes.

Take the bugger out into a public place and shoot him in the back of the head I say

Oh yes, and let Tony Martin out before our legal system makes itself look even more foolish and built to defend the guilty.

this winds me up supremely. Poor bastid just trying to defend himself and property and this happens. I'd have done EXACTLY the same. Hope the little scrote claiming for damages get killed in a freak cow / pig accident :D

heh, I think if he'd used the phrase "I was scared for my life" in his defence he would have got away with it, he should never have gone down

I feel very strongly about this because I used to live just 1 mile from where Tony Martin lived. Everybody in that village was frghtened of crims and the like, but the police wouldn't do Fcuk all about it till it came to this. People tried to tell the police that someone would get hurt and they said they couldn't do anything.
In the end the victim payed for it with time in jail.

I'm not saying that the teenager deserved to be killed but if he hadn't been there that night he'd probably still be alive.

rant over.

I agree with all 18 (as i write this) voters - free the guy, he only did what any other normal homeowner would have done.

He should have been released!

If someone is intentionally on your property (ie: in your home trying to nick stuff or attack your family) you should have the right to remove them or disable them. In America they do it all the time.

We need new laws in the UK! They are too weak at present!

Not released...

Because he shouldn't be there in the first place!

If he was a liar and hardened criminal he'd be out, because he'd know how to buck the system and give it the 'oh, I'm so sorry routine'.

Apparently the guy is twisted and evil, and it was that that got him done, not the fact he shot some scumbag. Some geezer on some other board says his sister works at Tony Martins prison, and he's the scariest guy there.
Just my 2p.
However, British justice is f*cked up.
