Anyone ever tried this ? as webcams have come along way it seems and I have a laptop I could strap into my car. Was just wondering if this would be a dirt cheap way of getting those in car / exterior shots at a drift day ?

A stand at Japfest was selling bullet cameras for £120 which looked the business :)

Maplin sells a pencil cam for £39.99 and we use them in our rally cars. They are good shit! Either hook them up to a normal video camera, 12v video/dvd recorder or whatever takes your fancy!

Is there a converter you can get to turn a normal composite or s-video connection into usb or firewire ?

It just seems to make more sense to record straight to the laptop you see as thats were it will end up anyway :)

i looked in to this last year, i was going ot mount 7 camera on my mates MR2 all running from 1 laptop, i found a piece of software that could run 500 camera simutaniously at a highish res, it was for CCTV monitoring it had a free demo 30 days and it seemed ok, but i cant remember what it was.

all in all it was gong to cost about £200 for the software and cameras, 6 ok res and 1 high res webcam

ok so i took action cam to silverstone. This was the 99 pound one from toysrus. The quality is ace apart from the sound which is a little tricky to stop overloading the mic ? :wack:

These are really low quality so i can squeeze em on my site nothing like the actual output. The sound is pretty poor ! but anyway feck it I'll do some proper movies tomorrow.

So

This is what is happening on the outside

cable ties!!!

I've been looking at this for a while now and keep getting dead ends...
a usb webcam should (in theory) record to your laptop if you have the right software (i have a mac, should be a bit easier i think...:yeahright:) but it might be worth dumping to an external hard drive as video takes up a lot of hdd...my last brands trackday had 40gigs of footage...

Stick some gaffa tape over the mic if it is too sensitive :)
