In the article the guy estimates that the car was doing around 120mph at the time of the incident, it also mentions avoiding oncoming traffic and there is a police car in attendance in one of the photos so it must surely have been a public road - prosecution pending for the driver?

I can't find any mention of oncoming traffic

lol, i like how other users have had to correct the article. seems a bit anti top gear to me aswell (last few paragraphs)
I can't find any mention of oncoming traffic
"8. The car bounced against the edge of the ditch and back out into the middle of the road, spinning violently four times again before heading back for the same ditch only further up the road. It skidded along on its flat underbelly like a plastic sledge before coming to a stop with the wheels straddling the ditch, facing the right way, not having hit an oncoming car, not having turned over. The structure of its carbon-fibre chassis tub remained perfectly intact. Behind us were the longest tyre marks I have ever seen: 265 metres of pirouetting rubber."
well at least it aws crashed by the engineer, so not as bad as the stig wrapping it up (again)
Interesting that the wheel shattered and fell apart, from this account.
Amidst a long thread about a McLaren F1 (Flemke's) on PH, there's a long discussion about wheel design, with the McLaren owner opting against CF rims for precisely this reason: he wasn't happy that he could trust them not to shatter in the event of a smallish crash on the road (where it would matter more, for other peoples' safety).
Yeah, read the TG blog today, must have been hella scary!!
Havent read about Flemke's f1 for a while come to think of it, think i only got to page 15 or so!! I know someone who is working on the official McL f1 upgrade project at the moment as well.....
Theyre noe exactly doing their utmost to help protect the engineer are they! Infact they seem to be trying their hardest to crucify the poor bugger in order to get a feature out of it.
Shocking!
Rapidly losing my respect for TG

and why protect him, if all is to be believed he was doing 120mph+ on public roads and crashed, he should be named and shamed

'10. A muck-spreader had just passed through the field we landed in. As a result, and only because of this, we now smelled of shit.'
