Can anyone recommend a set of plugs for me. Im currently running the set that I got with the boost upgrade at ND, and Im thinking that these may be getting past their best.

Also, what plug gaps do people recommend with T3 and the gubbins - about 17-18psi?

Hi I just use the same NGK's as fitted with the boost upgrade with a .6 gap. I'll get the part numbers for you at lunch.

I've got the colder rated platinum NGK's and im running about 17 -18psi, I can use a .75 gap on those, plus they last fudging ages.

How do the spark plugs make a difference to performance? I presume that the more spark they have the bigger the **EXPLOSION**.he he he.....hmmmmm... http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/mad.gif

I think the colder plugs work better when cylinder temp rises, hence you get a better spark, and the pug gap thing is to do with boost. When running higher boost levels the compresion can blow the spark out, closing the gap on the plugs helps avoid this.

The heat range of the plug is basically how fast it conducts heat away from the electrode. A 'hot' plug is used in lower performance engines which may spend most of their lives at lower rpm. A hot plug is used so that they get hot enough to burn off carbon deposits on the electrodes. If the same plug is used in a high performance turbo engine for example, the electrode will overheat rapidly. The result is pre-ignition, as the red hot plug will ignite the air/fuel mixture without a spark.

If on the other hand, a plug which is too cold for an engine is used, thick carbon deposits build up on the plug, resulting in poor running.

The gap is the space between the two electrodes on the end of the spark plug. When you increase boost the plug requires a greater voltage to produce a spark in these conditions. This may exceed the ability of the standard ignition system. You then have two main choices a http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif Uprate the ignition sytem b http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/smile.gif Make the gap smaller (hence reducing the voltage required to produce the spark). Another option is fitting iridium plugs which due to their smaller electrodes, will produce a spark with less voltage than a 'regular' plug.

Stu, Just got back from lunch, a can of coke and 2 nurofen http://300zx.co.uk/200sx/ubb/frown.gif the NGK plug numbers are BCPR7ES or BCPR8ES, I dont know which are cooler but they're both cooler than standard, I've running the 7ES's at the moment but last time I had the 8ES's, both run fine.

Steve you must have more power than that mate, i've got 230bhp and Nathan saw the printout from the RR and you belted past me on the M1 back from Santa Pod.

ND use them NGK R things, dont know the grade but they are colder. I got a set 2 weeks ago before the RR tune.

I really dont know.
Maybe 240 then . I wouldnt expect more than that. if when I get it rollin roaded then I'll be well chuffed.

bear in mind my Turbo is only a std T25. Did u say u had a bydrid?

As for the plugs ND use

NKG Code - BCPR7ES. I use either the 7's or the 8's. Depends on the boost levels your running. The real high boost demands cooler plugs.
