Bit of a strange question here.

A mate of mine has a Disco TDi 300 and wants a little more power  His turbo is on the way out and wants to get an upgrade. Does anyone know what turbos are on the market for these oil burners? He said he knows there are Hybrid turbos available but doesnt know where to purchase them from.

Does anyone know if there is a Electronic Boost Controler available for the TDi 300?

Also does anyone know if they can be tuned or mapped...he doesnt think its possible.

He has £500 to spend on one so any help would be appreciated.

Cheers guys i know you wont let me down

He is a sad typical oil burner driver :D

hi mate, you can't chip the 300tdi's they are controlled by the bosch mechanical pump, there's loads of sites on the net about how to modify the bosch injection pumps and it can be fiddled with to suit pretty much anything as its used on some big v8 diesels in america, for a start look at(http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=31) some good info on there...
blanking the egr off is also a simple mod that works
as for a turbo i'd be looking at a modern turbo, a garrett gt from something like a renault master or audi a6 tdi etc, about 150bhp standard... i'd personally not buy a hybrid turbo as theres much better fitted as standard to many a modern diesel:thumbs: a friends 240bhp td5 just blew its hybrid:down:
i've only looked into this briefly really oh and it also depends weather you use it off road at all! hope that helps:)

sorry just to add i'd just adjust the pump first, if you already havent, as its a night and day difference from standard and cost nowt:thumbs: give us a shout if you want a bit more info:)

if i remember right from my landy days, the 200tdi is the one that cant be chipped (the one i had) which is te early mk1 disco the one with the bigger headlights but looks basically the same is the 300tdi and can be chipped.

although many gains can be had from othe things.

on my 200 i fiddled with the fuel pump and govener (very easy to do!) fitted a bleed valve and had it showing 1.6bar on a autometer boost guage and changed the intercooler for one off a siera cossie 2dr with big diameter pipework, it was quicker than the v8's after this treatment (even on chip fat!)

and i ran it for 20k like this no probs at all, come emmissions test at mot it was cleaner than standard

I'm 99% sure the TD300's can be remapped cant they? I was chatting to someone the other day with a tuned disco. He had a bigger intercooler etc too. Unless it was a TD5

i'm no landy expert so i just had a quick look about and the 300tdi auto can be chipped but the manual is controlled mechanically and afiik they have an ecu to control the egr valve (exhaust gas recurculation) which you can just blank off.
if its a manual its easy and cheap to get the extra performance as people have said uprate intercooler as the standard one is cr*p, blank the egr, boost increase and adjust the pump to suit, if you up the boost a fair bit you run out of travel on the rod in the pump but you can machine its adjuster for more travel, i.e. more fuel.
my friend has a bit more idea and has tunned his 300tdi defender so i can find out what he has done in more detail if you like...
