Just been ragging my Corsa 1.5TD and noticed after a few miles there were orange sparks coming out the exhaust, like what you get off a bonfire!

What could this be, stopped after I drove it sensible for a bit?

Any ideas???

Cheers,

Richard

Not many diesels have cats do they?

Perhaps it was the built up particulates in the exhaust being burnt off? Ragging it would mean the exhaust getting hotter than it usually does.

Quite a few newer diesels are fitted with cats.

De Coke?

Thought something metal was touching the ground so I stopped only to see it coming out the exhaust, must say the exhaust sounded louder, but hard to tell as the engine on mine is really noisy anyway. Going for MOT tomorrow so hope it doesnt do anything stupid while its being tested! Think it has got a cat as it is an L reg but not really too sure!

I know some new cars have them but it's only recently the price of them has come down enough to do it. I wouldn't think a L reg would have one, but I have been known to be wrong - just ask my wife;)

I had an Escord TD, and when the cat went on that, you wouldn't be able to do over 10mph for some reason, and black smoke went everywhere. That was what the lesing company said it was any way. I did it in 3 times in total, every time they said it was the cat, I didn't know it could make that much difference?

If you can see something coming out from the tail pipe, I would have thought it was just your baffles and it would sound real ****. As for the sparks, **** from the now lose baffles?

What you see is the red hot packing in the muffler getting blown out.

I had that on the beetle...
turned out the rings weren't too clever, and it was being over fueled too... at least i saw where i was going while reversing tho...

Do you need to poke another log in the filler ? :p

Well hopefully it wont have a cat, see what happens at MOT tomorrow....

One more question will my car fail an MOT if you cant get in through the passenger door? Thing is the catch in the door doesnt work right and only opens sometimes if you repeatedly try the handle very quickly, you can get out fine though, just not got round to fixing it yet, the bloke is a friend of my mum so maybe he will let it go if I say I will fix it ;) Common fault on Corsa's im led to believe.

Bloody cars, Corsa's are the worst cars on the planet (nearly).

Cheers,

Richard
