Hi all!

I just wondered if anyone reads Redline Magazine? If you do, then what do you think of it?

If you don't then why not?

Cheers.

Tenman > Did you apply for a job there then?

Anyone got any ideas for a feature they'd like to read about? I.e, a Skyline rr day, or a drift feature, etc?

LOL, yup, applied mainly as a piss take, was very surprised to get shortlisted to the last 12 but didn't hear anything after that, had a good giggle writing up some bollocks and really winding up the missus with it by making her proof read it :D

It's one of he few mags I'll buy, it still quite good IMO.
Why not do a full in depth article on billing this year, I dont mean the usual turn up for an hour, wander around snapping anything. I mean turn up friday night and stay the weekend. base your report on the atmosphere of the show and the goings on by the nutters as well as the cars, to get a true picture of the jap scene. should make intresting reading ;)
P.S can I have a new keyring please? this old one has lasted nearly 4 years and is a bit worn ;)

I think the second issue of this magazine had a 200sx (s14/s14a) on the cover, some guy had the car doing doughnuts round him self whilst he had one foot on the ground and one on the accelarator. Might be wrong though, but it defo had teh 200sx on teh cover. They seemed to rated teh 200sx very highly too, which made a change. Haven't read it since though.

Too Much P0rn, Its nearly top shelf sometimes.

If i am buying a car mag i want a mag that shows more cars than girls.

If i want a p0rn mag i'll buy a p0rn mag.

Banzai and Japanese Performance are the only one i tend to buy.

Sorry

But its just my opinion, I did used to buy it but just got feedup with it.

kewl...

Yes Mr Carter, I can now reveal that I am the new Staff Writer for Redline Magazine! Wahey!!! :)

I start on Monday, and it means a move down to Bath for me, but it's something I've always wanted to do. So I'm now preparing myself for a life of Car shows, model shoots and cruises... ;)

Seriously though, I really wanna make a difference to the mag, so if any fellow sx'ers have any ideas on improving the mag then I'll do my best to make it happen.

At the end of the day Redline is a magazine which does feature Saxo's, 106's, etc, as well as Japanese stuff, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's a negative thing. At the end of the day Redline is set to be more track-day focused than any other magazine. For example, Renton co-owns a 400+bhp stripped-out track-day 3-door Cossie, Davy has a stripped-out Tigra-engined Corsa which does 0-60 in 6 secs, and now my own 180SX will be joining the fleet. On the 1st Feb 2003 there is a Redline track day being held at Bedford Autodrome (I think), and this follows last years' Redline Records (airfield) / Redline Rumble (Santa Pod)/ Redline '4-Play' (show in Ireland).

Basically, I really want show people that Redline magazine IS different to the Max Power and Revs of this world.

I hope to help build on the good reputation which Redline already enjoys. More specifically, with features such as the "Billing weekender" mentioned above, which I think is a great idea.

Anyway, I've got loads of ideas for the mag, and I hope everyone on here will support me and go out and buy the magazine at least once a day... or something. :o ;)

BTW - I was serious about the feedback thing. If anyone knows of a car or event that they would like to have featured then could they please mail me at: 'goodyerdan@aol.com'

Cheers,

Dan. :)

I didnt know Renton worked for Redline now. A few years back he worked at Fast Car and lived in sunny Essex. Also had a Turbo Orion which i nearly brought but someone beat me to it :( .

Take it its the same Renton, cant see there being more than 1 that works in the modded car magazine world :D

Yep!

Renton (real name Dan Lewis), has been the editor of Redline magazine for aaaaages now. Basically, he came in and turned the mag around.

Last year he built 'Project 50', which is an E36 Beemer with a 400ish bhp Cossie engine, one-off kit, 16k ICE install, HUGE wheels, etc...

He also co-owns a 400+bhp 3-door Cossie (engine just been rebuilt by Martin Hadland of Reyland fame).

Redline also have two 'magazine' cars, i.e, purely to take to shows, etc:

1) a Veilside-kitted Supra TT on 19's
2) a modded Honda Civic on 19's

Redline also arranged for Martin Hadland to break the world record for towind a caravan when his 500+bhp Escort Cossie pulled a caravan along at 130mph!!

I firmly believe that Redline is a misunderstood mag.

Don't assume Redline is just like other mags which concerntrate on 1.0 Saxo's with expensive paint.

See you on the track... ;)

Redlines a good mag, its the only one with a good mix of Hot hatches, mental jap cars and funny stuff, it's the only one I buy.
I think Banzai and Jap performance are just a bit too serious (although they do have good technical info) and I can get bored of Civics, Skylines and Supras! Fast Car / Max Power are aimed too much at teenagers (Novas, Saxos, Corsas, **** jokes, porn). I think Redline's got it just about right :)
Dan, you forgot to mention Rentons Beemer - its mental!

Congrats on the job Ben :)

Make sure you come up and do a good feature on Crail in Scotland as its an old school run what you brung, and the only 1/4mile we've got up here. Some mags just chuck a load of pics in for the track days and they leave the reader asking questions like: "What the hell is that?", "I wonder how quick that is?" etc.etc.

I think track day write ups would benefit from a proper description of cars featured in pics and also posting the best times etc in the article.

My 2p :)

Dunc.

Cheers guys! :)

The 9th sounds good! :)

Cheers for all your suggestions guys, and Dunc, I totally agree about the track-day times thing.

Pazza> Me VERY interested in covering a drift day. If you have any specific ideas then drop me a mail. I'll suggest the idea as soon as I can.
