Thanks to you all for your help, still happening but I've found a guy from Nissan whose going to have a look on the qt. I'll hopefully let you know what the problem was.

Engine > ecu heat sensor £25.00 from Nissan solved the problem 100%:)

Hey mate. Ive had this problem before! 1st off what 200 you got? One day i couldnt start my car, phoned breakdown recovery i told him that ive checked for a spark and that the fuel pump is working which he didnt seem to impressed about  ! Anyway he jumped in my car and turned it over for about 2mins, wen it finally started he reved the tits out of it and had the cheek to ask why i was spending so much money on such a crap car  !!! Tw@! Anywho at the time i was using texaco super unleaded and thought i would change fuel, swapped to shell V-Power and havnt had a problem since!

Hope that helps, I might of just been paranoid about the fuel and it may of been a one of thing! :)

I'm using super / premium unleaded. The problem initially started about 18 months ago when the car was off the road and I used to start her up about twice a week for around half an hour, no problems until one day she ran out of petrol while doing this and after putting petrol in the car she would start but not re-start after being switched off, but would several hour's later.
The car has just been put back on the road, hence the service, work and new MOT last Wednesday, but she ran out of petrol again on the way back to me. She drove great to and from the MOT station (25 miles) no problem with re-starting, but after running out and putting petrol in the problem was back.
She's a fully standard 1996 s14 Touring

Flooding is a common S14 problem, but usually after a few seconds running rather than five minutes. Typically, move the car off the drive to let someone else out, park and switch off. It then won't start next time.

It's still my best guess though, so try the fuel pump fuse trick.

Next best guess is similar.
If your coolant temperature sensor is fubared, the car will still be overfuelling badly after five minutes and you end up with the same effect.

There are two sensors. One for the dashboard gauge, and the important one, that feeds the ECU.

flooding is even more common on the s13 Jon ;) the old fuel pump fuse trick works a treat normally.

I'm going to bet this is a J/K reg car, probably with worn inlet valves, and the hot start solenoid is still connected

:o Jon / danny can you explain the old 'fuel pump fuse trick'

take the fuse out if it wont start, start the car and the flooding should clear

Thanks Danny
After I left the car stand for a couple of hours I went out and she started straight away. Without driving her I started up and turned her off about ten times and she started first time everytime.
I took her for a drive (about 3 miles) got back, switched off and restarted her straight away without any trouble. After switching off again I waited a few minutes and tried to start her again, this time she wouldn't start.
I took the fuel pump fuse out, turned the engine a few times and put the fuse back in and she went straight away.
I could understand if this was a one off, but this happens every time after driving her any distance however short. Any idea's why, ecu? Spent a load on her up to now and getting frustrated:(

Mmmmm. Sparkyhx has had persistent flooding problems with his S14. As far as I know he has never found a cause, and added an accessible switch into the circuit to make the 'fuel pump fuse trick' easier.

When I say it's a common problem I've only had it twice in 6years and 60k miles, and always with less than twenty seconds running from a cold start before switch off.

Why driving the car for five minutes would be different to letting it idle for five minutes, I don't know :(
