View Full Version : Espace - Whining from auto - help!

As well as the 200SX, I have a 2.9 litre petrol Espace. Above around 30mph, there is a whine (a bit like you sometimes hear on a bus) and I can't get much above 60mph. I think it is the auto box which is the trouble - any ideas what in particular as I know nothing about automatics.
Any help appreciated - there doesn't seem to be an Espace owners club site.
Cheers,
Robert.
Not run out of transmission fluid has it?
failing that, torque convertor??

The fluid is OK :(
Torque convertor - is that an integral part of the auto box? Someone else has suggested bearings.
I suppose my question is - do I need a replacement auto box? If so, do they just come as one unit, similar to a manual unit or does it split down further? Is it just a question of unbolting from the engine, disconnecting the drive-shafts and gear-lever and any electrical connections and doing a straight swap?
Thanks,
Robert
