View Full Version : Moto GP v F1 ?
Has there ever been a head to head between a Moto GP bike and an F1 car?
I know the car would lick the bike round the twisties just wondered if there was a straight line drag outthere?
I remember seeing Button's car v's a British Superbike v's powerboat on 5th Gear. Not much of a contest though :ghey:
the bikes hit higher top speeds in during races, the cars lap quicker. Having said that a Honda F1 car went some silly fastness on the salt flats that a moto gp bike wouldn't have got to.
Be interesting to see an f1 car with no down force vs a bike for a lap of somewhere/
A superbike should probably be compared to a touring car. A motoGP bike has pretty major packaging (engine position, swing arm length) and aerodynamic (especially Ducati) over a superbike. Having said that superbikes have done some pretty amazing laptimes at some tracks.

Would definately like to see Casey Stoner's Ducati against an F1 car round a track, although i still think the F1 car would win because of amazing traction the cars have. :)

agreed....
there is a video *(5th gear:rolleyes: ) of a powerboat (why), a motoGP bike and a F1 car head to head.
the motoGP bike takes it off the line but then the aerodynamics start to kick in, F1 wins at a 9. something, motogp bike high 9 or so and the boat a 13 (the boat had a flying start though, was already doing topspeed)
didnt tiff race a ducati in a gallardo and the bike won by half a second or something?

I could've sworn it was "Shakey" Byrne on a British Superbike and not a MotoGP bike tho. The runway surface looked pretty bumpy and crap IIRC.
If an F1 car does a standing 1/4 in the 9's i'd like to see the Norris Evo have a pop at one, what a scalp that would be!:whip:
Just found it on Youtube, it was Michael Rutter on his BSB. I found something comparing Rossi / Schuey split screen stylee doing a lap. F1 car beat it by some 30 secs:eek:

I would expect an F1 car to pi$$ all over a GP bike, on ANY circuit
It's not just acceleration and grip, but also braking.
Take the front and rear wings off and it could be a different outcome though.
No contest what so ever, aceleration, top speed or round a track.
As for a modified road car, you have got to be joking!!

Its a real shame they put so many restraints into the manufacture of F1 cars, cant have turbos, cant use V10's cant be more than 2.4ltrs cant use anything except aluminium and steel, cant have movable wings, cant have fun.
Otherwise F1 cars would now be 2000bhp 6 turbo 4ltr V16s with more down force than a fat bird .... this thread would have never been concieved
Totally agree with Johnny
That way with enough downforce they could have a tunnel where they had to drive on the ceiling :wack:
I'd watch it more then  :wack:

Theyve got that now, still wouldnt be able to overtake though, having said that this seasons been rather good, shame they never got those weird looking center downwash wings aproved.

A lot of teams especially Renault and Williams do startline testing at Santa Pod. They tend to run low 9's.
