View Full Version : People buying petrol
Petrol cost 72.7p where I am at about 50% of the garages. So why is it that folk are happy to fill up at 75.9? I drove past 2 garages this morning that were about 400 yards apart, one cheap the other pricey and there were the same number of people in each.
Why?
Even when I had company cars and wasn't responsible for paying fuel myself I always went to the cheapest unless in a dire emergency.
Am I being mean and weird, or is it other people?
You're not being mean and weird. I feel exactly the same. There's a few garages like that in my area, one being cheaper than another and an equal number of people in both and I always think "Why the feck are they paying that much when it's cheaper 30 seconds down the road?!". Maybe they're just lazy or have deep pockets :D
Stimpy.
How big's you're tailpipe mate. it looks huge?
It's a normal Blitz Nur Spec R. And yes it is huge. I had my hand down it yesterday cleaning the inside of it! The actual size is a metric size (due it being Jap) but I think it's around 3.5 to 4 inches or something.

I've never bothered with petrol prices, I only buy Optimax, so what's the point in compairing.
I'm cheapo - I go the Morrisons where I also get my points to obtain a free five pound coupon with 5000 points! :)

79.9 at mine :p, but the garage that sells it is a good 5 miles out of my way :(
Does anyone else pick the tube up and make sure it all drips into the tank when you've finished filling up? Or am I being a cheapskate again?
All the Shell garages by be have Optimax at 76.9p, but UL (for the Sierra) varys from 70.9p - 72.9p
I just always stick to shell for the Pluspoints :D

Only to stop the blimmin' stuff running down the side of my nice clean car
They should do student discount on petrol if you ask me... Like they do everywhere else! :D
I always run Optimax in the 2*****. Optimax is 74.5 in my local Shell. I run normal unleaded in the runabout though, so I'm always on the lookout for cheapy petrol for that. Local Asda and Tesco are the cheapest at 70.9 at the mo'.

Yep :)
Optimax is actually cheaper, than normal unleaded is at a few garages near me
Can't afford to put more than a fiver in at a time these days, so it doesn't bother me where I get it from :)
Cant get Optimax near me, nearest is braintree or southend. Texaco went and brought all the Shell stations round here :( So i got to Texaco or Esso (normally Esso as its the cheapest) :D

Hell yes, it was on TV ages ago (something like Watchdog) apparently there can be up to a litre:eek: of petrol left in the hose depending on how it's connected to the pump.
The worst offenders are the hoses connected to the top of the pump (about 8-10' up) all the petrol collects in the 'u' the hose makes when you're filling up.
I always give it a good shake before I finish off:D
Alg;) (Optimax only)
I pay 78.9 for optimax which lasts me around 310 miles
