I've got some 3 piece split rims sat here - undone all of the botls and the front section is now loose - i was thinking 'bonus, they're 3 piece, i might be able to not have to pay to get the tyres removed' :D, but i'm buggered if i can get the tyre unstuck from the front lip - any (non tyre desctructive :wack: ) ideas?
heat?

Put it back together and get the tyres taken off properly?

Put it back together and get the tyres taken off properly?

That's the current plan :wack: and that's what i've done :D
It's just theoretically, with them undone, you could just pull one bit out either side, in my imaginary made up world :D

Sadly if that were the case the tyres would fall inwards when you cornered!

I figured that they were held on by the pressure, like bike wheels :wack:

Off to the garage tomorrow :D
cheers

Hammer and chisel. On the tyre, not the rim. That's how the old fashioned bead breakers worked

submerge them in water .... a lot of water ...... at about 500ft the pressure should easiliy be enough to force the tyre wall of the rim

sweet. I've got a decompression chamber in my back yard, reckon that'll work just as well?

If you've got a fancy watch you can test the manufacturer's claim that it's water resistant to 200metres at the same time!

I dont see why not. just make sure when you decompress the chamber, you do it slowely, because if you do it quickly and the tyre is touching the rim, its possible that it will re-seal itsself again as the pressure in the tyre cant equalise.

alteratively get the tyre really hot, and fill it with really really hot air .. then put it in the freezer ..... as the tyre cools and the air contracts it will pull the tyre off the rim.

All good suggestions  ta :)
Petrol and a match may do the opposite i fear, and seal it onto the rim harder still :(
I think if that were the technique i'd need to fill the decompression chamber with an explosive gas, or fill the tyre with an implosive gas :( and i haven't got enough gas to perform either of those tasks :(

I was thinking i wouldn't want to decompress the chamber too quickly. As i don't want to give the wheel the bends

On a slightly more obtuse note: best take it to the local friendly tire fitter then - seeing as the last set he removed for me he did for free and all :wack:

We used to use the back actor on the JCB to remove tractor tyres, or just drive over the edge of them.:) Probably not advisable:wack:
