you need either the V5 OR the renewal letter, either will suffice

allegedly if you still have 'the little green bit' that you keep when you send the logbook off they can scan the barcode and that will do,
depends of you have that though.
what do you need if you tax it online?

ok have a V11 here
the reminder form think i have had it for a few months now lol
take it it does not expire then, and will still be valid
so as long as i have this i can tax the car without my V5
and all iwill need is the MoT and Insurance docs
to tax the car online you either need the number rom the reminder form
or the number fromthe V5
i cant find the little slip either lol :(

Only valid for 3 months after purchase. If theresa date on it then they won't tax it.

It expires after 30 days from the expiry of the old tax disc.
You are fubared. My dad owns a post office and we check the dates of the old v11 and also the computer will tell us not to tax it if you take that in.
You need to go to the post office and ask for a form that requests a replacement for a V5. Have to pay £19 to DVLA and will take some time.
Online i don't know about but i would suspect that it would ask for the validation character from the V5 or similar, to prevent fraud.

Yea I got told this.. luckily I hadn't filled it in yet :)
It is somewhat annoying that you have to lie or wait weeks to legally get your car on the road...
