Hi all,
The first round of the season had finally arrived for me and I couldn't wait to get stuck in and explore the limits of the "new" car! It was a looong trip to Liverpool for the Aintree sprint, a track I hadn't been to before. I was lucky enough to arrive at the same time as CrouchieB so he gave me the benefit of his experience whilst walking the track. It's a very fast course, with only 3 bends in 1.8km!
Anyway, to cut a long story short, I finished 4th out of 5 in the Scimitar class, exactly 2.5 secs behind Crouchie's very sorted SST. I had a cracking day and learned a lot about the car, which was the main objective really. The suspension's quite soft and I really need an LSD!

Today was the RAF Sprint Championship at RAF Barkston Heath in Lincolnshire. I raced the MR2 here last year in the pouring rain, so was obviously praying for sun this time. Emma was probably praying for a different reason, as she was also racing the Scimitar today. The RAF Championship is organized slightly differently to normal sprinting. There are no classes specific to types of car, the classes are based on qualifying times. The fastest time set in qualifying +3 seconds is class 1, plus another 3 seconds is class 2 and so on. There are also 2 rounds on each day, so 2 qualifying and 2 timed runs in the morning, then the same again in the afternoon with the classes reset. To avoid people “hanging back” to win classes, if you beat your fastest qualifying time by more than 1.75 seconds you have a point deducted.
I fell foul of this in the first round, beating my fastest qualifying time by 2.26 secs. I ended up heading class 6, which contained a S14a and Audi A4 among others. Emma was doing well bringing up the rear of class 8. In the second round I moved up to class 5, in with 2 slick-shod Metro’s. I improved my time by a further 1.5 secs, finishing 2nd in class. Emma dropped to Class 9 even though she managed to shave a few tenths off her time.
There’s also time at the end of the day for some practice laps. Emma and I both passengered(!) in a V8 Westfield, which can only be described as MENTAL!!!
All in all, a cracking weekend :D

Glad you enjoyed it Razza. Scotching hot day, great organisation by LMC as usual -2 practice run, 3 timed runs and a fun run if you wanted!
The SST ran very well indeed, (about bloody time to:nod: ) although if Paul's orange GTE had been running anything like it should I wouldn't have won the class.
If you think mine's sorted you should see Craig's (CNHSS1) around there, mentally quick at 49.7 vs my pedestrian 53.6!
My question is where are Yak & SM this season? I finally get the car sorted and now need to see how it goes against them after being beaten soundly last year.:sxoc:
Curborough next weekend for the next event and hopefully more of the same - great weather & quick times.
PS - Geoff at Autosprint for the cam on 01675 464 857 & Mark Wallkwork of Fuel Injection Services for the diff on 01204 391 071.
Hiya Razza,
Great to hear you're having fun and wonderful to hear that Emma is getting stuck in too! I'll pass the info onto Karen. :)
We're at Cadwell on Monday 7th May if you're "about" ;)

I may well come up for that! I'm at Shelsley on the 12th if you guys fancy coming along?
Emma had a great day, "awesome" was her exact word :D She's doing her assesment drive for Formula Woman next Friday as well, at a karting place near Lichfield.
Cheers, Raz

Well hopefully we'll see you at Cadwell then. Unfortunately, we're leaving for a holiday (yeah, a bloody holiday "huzzah!" ) on Saturday 12th so won't be able to see you at Shelsly. That's a damn shame... :(
Best wishes to Emma!
:notworthy Respec' gentlemen (and lady)
What other kind of cars were you up against??

Never mind. :)
Just found out that Emma's assesment drive is actually in a Caterham around Curborough Sprint track, which could work out well as she's driven there before, back in November at a practice day

Thanks Doc  At Aintree we were in our own Scimitar class, although there were 160 other cars racing that day! One guy was running a standardish S13, and another an S12. The S13 was only 2 seconds slower than me!
At Barkston Heath there's a right mish-mash, from a Jedi, to a Hornet, to a couple of kit cars, to a new Audi A4 estate! Here's the onboard video of one of Emma's passenger laps:

Loving the v8 Westy:notworthy
Luv the way she  at the end!
I'll try and get Darren (the big lad?) to come and find you on Saturday 12th at Shelsly. He's got membership, so goes to just about every meeting. Real shame, as we could have offered you a place to stay overnight to make life easier for ya.
Keep us in mind next time. ;)

Thanks Richard, appreciate that
Yeah, send Darren over, I remember him
I'm at Curborough this Saturday, so I'd better stop using the internet and go and do some work on the Scimmy! She's booked in at APT on friday for dyno setup
Raz
I did suspect someone off here would be there - CA18DET'd cars.... :D
Only managed to watch from the sidelines at Aintree (Though a friend was out in his grey S13) - still need to sort a few more bits before I get mine out.
Hope to out at Aintree later in the year though :)
If anyone is at Aintree, please let me know. I only live 10 miles away and love coming along to watch and provide any help if necessary.

Do you want to drive mine?
I've just been busy fitting a new fan (s14 one I had lying around...) due to the overheating problems I had at the weekend. Unfortunatley I must have buggered up the wiring as I can't get it to work now
thanks for the offer mate, really kind, but would be worried to death id break yours too! not known for my mecahnical sympathy or ability to look after the car. If in doubt, flat out! is my motto.
have you got a wiing diagram? if not post on scimitarweb.com and ask Peter Freeman to email you one, much better and clearer than the old factory version.

Sounds like a plan!

Got the fan working
Having the car set up on APT's dyno tomorrow, can't wait :D Good job I fixed the boost controller today then, as it was stuck at 14psi.
Trial fitted the bucket seat today, unforunately the subframe holes don't line up with the holes in the floor so it won't be going in until next week at the earliest :( Should have the harness in tomorrow though
My new shift light has arrived and I had a play with it today, so that'll be getting wired in tomorrow as well.
The spoiler finally fell off so I'm taping over the holes until I can get a replacement. Bodge tape rules!
That's about it for this weeks progress I think, unless I get time to relocate the battery to the boot before I leave for Curborough tomorrow night.
Raz :)
