151 - increase your Tel line gain?

MY mate reckons that if you call BT on 151 and ask them to check your Tel line and get them to increase your line gain then your modem connection will improve.

Is this true?

Yes. Ank them to tune your line for data 'all the way'
They'll tell you that it will decrease voice quality, but it's hardly noticable.

Yup golders - that is true. A few years ago, I was getting 28.8kbps on my 56kbps modem. Gave them a call, and after that I was getting rates between 46-51kbps.
