Anyone know anything about them?
My mate who was looking at getting a 14/a has been hit by the harsh reality that there is fcuk all room inside them for bikes etc, so we are looking for alternatives :D

Are the GT twin turbo wagon's any good? Most of them seem to be mid 90's ish, for about 2.5k or so - does that sound about right? any major things to look for? Is it these ones that need to be remapped for UK fuel, or run with a whole shedload of octane booster and V-power?
any input appreciated :)

The twin turbo Legacies (GT, GT/B, B4 RSK) are all imports and are all high compression turbo engines which really do need 100RON to survive. Mine does ok on V-Power or Tesco with Millers Octane Plus, but I did kill my first engine because the previous owner ran it on 95 RON, so be sure to ask the seller what fuel to run it on. I beleive you can remap them, though I haven't gotten around to doing mine yet.

Yes they are all mid 90s and the GT was replaced with the GT/B later on in the 90s, if you have the cash I'd recommend the GT/B as it has a really nice Billstein suspension setup, at some point the power was bumped from 250 to 280bhp as well.

go to UKLegacy.com for more info, we're much nicer than ScoobyNet :)

lol at the scoobynet comment! when you say have to be run on V-power or Tesco with millers, do you mean with V-power it's ok without any additives?

I'm trying to put across the idea of a GTB, but apparently the insurance is a fair bit more :(

Cheers for the advice, i'll do some e-lurking :D

Out of interest - you have an RSK don't you? what sort of mpg do you get out of it?

I use the additives with V-Power as well, though to be fair I have not tested either fuel without the additives. Replacing that dead engine cost me a hell of a lot so I'm not about to take any chances just to save £3.50 on a £50 tank of petrol.

As for MPG, it depends on how you drive it ;)

I have once gotten 30mpg out of it, on a constant 80mph drive down the M74/A74/M6 late at night.

Sensible drivers on the forums report 27 as acheivable, I get more like 22 since work pay for my petrol. If I really thrash it, it will drink fuel. I have used a tenners worth getting from one side of Milton Keynes to the other before now

What is the difference between the various legacy models? How do the GL, classic and MPFi compare to the GT. Obviously they would be less powerful, but what kind of power do they have?

Any info would be ace!

With the exception of the Mk1 Legacies, Subaru have never sold a turbocharged Legacy in the UK, so you're looking at a rather agricultural boxer engine of whatever size (of course the newer models are a lot more refined as they're trying to push the Legacy into the repmobile market). I think the base 2.0 model is something like 130bhp on the old ones but don't quote me on that.

It depends as much on year as on engine size, Subaru are continually buggering about with things, even in the same generation of twin-turbo legacy, I know of 3 different combinations of turbos in common use (vf16+vf17, vf25+vf26, vf25+vf27)

don't expect the 2ltr variants to be sporty or you'll be dissapointed.i have a 2ltr mpfi and it's a nice drive, handles well and is pretty good in the mud,but it is an estate not a sports car.for reasonable performance i think you'd need to consider the 4cam 2.5ltr,not a rocket ship but gets to 60 in 9.4 secs:)

Thanks for the replies. :notworthy Things are becoming clearer. I do really like the GT and would like one, but was wondering whether having to put octane booster in all the time would start to irritate and cost a fortune. I guess its just something you have to do with those cars, how much is needed per tank of fuel?

So, between legacys there is no real UK alternative to the GT?

Do Impreazas follow this rule too, or are there more UK turbos around in that guise?
