View Full Version : 2nd exhaust sensor?

I noticed the JDM S13 gave a reading for 'exhaust gas temperature ' when I had the consult on it today. This was as well as the 02 reading from the lambda.

Sure enough, there's a sensor for the mid-section of the exhaust. It obviously runs passably without it, as rather than make a thread for it in the aftermarket exhaust, someone had just tucked above the heatshield :wack:

Anyone else got one? Anyone know what it does of use in the ECU?

Maybe totally unrelated, but i've got a little piece of wire hanging down infront of my standard centre silencer (s14a) and always wondered what it is!?

There's one on mine - I think it's a supplementary ground for an exhaust sensor. Whether it intended for the front lambda, or for this rear thingy (if fitted), I dunno,

On UK cars that strap is an earth wire to earth the exh to the car.

On JDM cars its a different wire and its a heat sensor wire to tell if the CAT is overheating - hence the dash light for it too :)

I thought UK cars had the same sensor?

I seem to remember removing one from mine when I first changed the exhaust.

JDM R33 GTRs defo have the same thing.

Pyro's 180 had it, it had been chopped roughly off and shoved behind the heat sheild, was one of the shorts/problems on his car.

I got one of those too, just after the cat but before the join, but mines still plumbed in. I also have an earthing strap.
