You may remember Honda announcing that a more extreme version of the new Type R would be released - but not necessarily as a road legal car.

Well here it is
http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoexpressnews/208207/civic_cossie_blasts_off.html

However, what the hell is Auto Express on about, when it claims it to be a spiritual successor to the Escort Cossie? What a stupid remark.

Its 65grand.
Heres a tip for honda, strip the crap out of the type R and fit a nicer coupe style body over it, hammer and extra 10-20 hp out of it and then it may just be allowed to ware a type R badge.

So, sort of like the Japanese domestic market Type-R then, without the rear doors

Think the best thing about it is 30% more torque throughout the lower revs. They've done away with the whole gay low power thing, essentially 'fixing' the VTEC. Superb.

All that money and they still haven't given it some proper rear suspension!!!

I heard its basic is that the case? My old man has a 1.8 new civic and I'm pretty impressed with the handling.

Its good that they have sorted out the sequential shifting because my old mans one takes a second to change gear. Its a proper manual box though not a tricked auto one.

260bhp from a 2 litre is :notworthy

£65k is

Changes are made in only 80 milliseconds, which gives a brutal edge to the Type R-R, particularly as the steering wheel writhes with every upshift.

almost make it sound like that's a good thing

I just cant see it selling for £65k though.

So many better cars could be bought.

On the hatchback model they have a torsion beam rear axle (the JDM/ US Saloon models have multilink/ IRS/ Control blade type suspension

65 grand?!?!?!?! How can they justify that?!!? Is it made from carbon fiber!!!!

Why did they go all 1980 with the rear suspension then?

£65k??? I don't care how quick it is (well, not very tbh) but it still looks like a Civic. Could get so much more brand new or even more if you buy second hand!

Because it's cheap. On the older Civic they had independent rear suspension on all models but it cost them profit and also caused packaging issues. Toyota made a better fist of it by fitting torsion beam rear suspension to basic Corollas, but designed the chassis to take an independent setup for the "hot" versions. Honda should have copied the idea.

I see... It does handle brilliantly with a nice quick rack just over 2 turns lock to lock so don't think it matters too much to be honest.

I agree, was quite surprised to hear it was a pretty old skool set up after driving my parents one. They have a 1.8 as well, I'm very impressed with the handling so far

Must admit I do like the look of that in white with proper wheels, but then I'm a deviant who likes the look of the standard car anyway :wack:

Does your parents one have the paddle shift via a manual gearbox?

Yeah, I took it for a spin and I was amazed at how well the car could turn into bends. Paddle shift auto thing is a bit weird though

wtf is that vent on the roof for  :wack:

65k for a civic, you're having a laugh - this will go the way of the NSX quickly :smash:

maybe they remembered that some of the best handling cars ever built have used rear torsion beams ;)

£65k for a civic
I don't care how many R's it's got in the name. I'll rather wait for the new GTR if I had that kind of money.

Where did this silly figure of 65k come from? Of course it won't cost that much if indeed it ever gets released as a road car.

That's more like the price of the basic kit for Touring car privateers - which this model isn't by a long way.

I cant see nowhere it quotes 65K.. anyone got a link?

There is a bit in one of the blogs about a guy speculating about 65k, although i doubt it would be that much myself.
However even if it were 25k its still in 350z and rx8 territory and both of those are much more attractive than some razzed up scrabbler with a super sowing machine

Renault have the right idea, take the Sport version, strip it out and make it lighter. Drop the price and let all the track nuts snap them up :D

It's nothing new. It's clearly just a rip off of this earlier civic....

Yeah i saw this in the mag, 65 grand is what they are expecting, and i dont doubt it as sequential boxes and engines built to those tolerance's aint going to be cheep.
Plus it will still be lame in the torque department.... Just go out and buy a second hand ex BTTC car or something...

Yep - Honda motorbikes cost nearly 10k these days  ;)

The article says its looking to kick the Focus ST into touch, so Id wager about £25K, which doesnt seem unreasonable to me .......... remember an S13 was selling for near on 20K 17 years ago

ShawJohn
24-04-2007, 14:07
no doubt there will be a slimmed down version with no sequential box for around the 22k mark

I still say buy an NSX and keep the change :p
